Every life leaves a story

Some lives are celebrated. Some lives are remembered. All leave stories behind.

This All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, we pause to remember the people who came before us, from those whose lives shaped the wider world to those who simply shaped ours.

Libraries keep stories alive, across generations and through the memories we share.

Who are you remembering this weekend?

A little magic appeared yesterday

Winnie and Wilbur came to life through stories, songs and some brilliant shadow puppetry at our Winnie and Wilbur with Wild Boor Ideas event.

Our Story Time, Song & Puppet Making Sessions for 2–7 Year Olds gave young visitors the chance to step into the story and get creative too.

Take a look at a few moments from the day, and follow us to discover what’s coming up next at the library.

Well, our Halloween crafters did not disappoint

Halloween crafting today went particularly well, thanks to a lot of very talented and unquestionably enthusiastic children AND parents.

There were masks. There were trick-or-treat bags. There were stickers, stars, pumpkins, ghosts and enough creativity to give the adults some serious competition.

Take a look at what everyone created, and watch this space for more library activities.

GHOST OR DINOSAUR? LIBRARY INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

A giant spectre was spotted floating past the main desk this week, causing concern among library staff and visitors.

Witnesses described the figure as "prehistoric in scale" and "suspiciously dinosaur-shaped".

One Library Manager said:
"I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I've never seen a ghost with arms that short."

Experts are currently divided between two theories: a rare T-Wraith sighting, or the legendary T-Rexorcist returning to haunt the dinosaur shelves.

The investigation continues. Visitors are encouraged to report any unusual roaring.

Before children discover who they will become, they first discover who they can be.

Every story they read, every craft they create and every question they ask helps build imagination, confidence, empathy and belief in themselves.

The Children's Library isn't just a place to borrow books, make crafts or sing rhymes.
It's a place where children learn to wonder. To create. To understand others. To find their place in the world.

It's a place where futures begin.

A child enters looking for a book. They leave carrying a bigger world inside them.

Digital confidence means more freedom, more privacy and less reliance on others. Learn how to stay safe online on Thursday 29 Oct 1030-1200.

It Feels Good to Know You Can Do It Yourself

Ordering a prescription. Checking an appointment. Reading an email. Shopping online. Managing a bank account.

These might seem like small things, but being able to do them confidently can make a big difference to how independent and in control someone feels.

As more of everyday life moves online, many people worry about making mistakes, getting scammed, or simply not knowing where to start. As a result, they may avoid online services altogether or rely on others to help.

This free session from AbilityNet is designed to help older adults and disabled residents feel more confident online. Learn how to spot scams, protect personal information, use passwords safely, and navigate everyday online tasks with greater confidence.

Because staying safe online isn't just about security.

It's about confidence, independence, privacy, and the freedom to get things done yourself.
