Last week was an incredibly busy one for Padstow and our colleagues all across Cornwall.

As a station, alongside our day jobs we worked a combined 219 hours on incidents including wildfires, RTCs, fuel leaks, and standbys. Travelling a total of 372 across Cornwall and on Wednesday the fire engine was mobile at multiple incidents for 23.5 hours in a 24 hour period. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

We have now been issued with a water carrier to improve service resilience and assist in supplying large volumes of water to rural areas when required. A first ever special appliance for Padstow Fire Station. ๐Ÿ’ช

It has been a busy period for Padstow and the county as a whole. Please listen to the local advice on controlled burns and wildfire awareness.

On Saturday evening we mobilised to a fire alarm sounding at a hotel in town. Whilst a crew investigated, two firefighters from Padstow were tasked with proving cover for crew shortages at Newquay Community Fire Station. They were soon mobilised to a large workshop fire near Newquay.

Over night on Saturday two more firefighters from Padstow traveled to Wadebridge Community Fire Station to mobilise their water carrier. Marking the first incident attended by the new vehicle.

Whilst keeping our own pump on the run we were able to assist in mobilising machines from two neighbouring stations meaning in the early hours of Sunday morning our pump and a crew headed down to St Just to provide relief cover for crews battling a large wildfire.

The following night a crew were required again to provide relief at the St Just incident which had been contained but required continued damping down and monitoring. Just a few hours after returning to Padstow we turned out again, this time to provide cover at Bodmin Community Fire Station whilst their firefighters responded to another wildfire.

The pump returned to station on Monday evening ready to respond as ever. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

Keep the countryside safe this summer.

Dry weather means a rise in the wildfire risk in our area:
โœ… If you smoke - put it out, right out
โœ… Cooking outside - always make sure coals are cold before binning
โœ… Controlled burns/bonfires - never leave unattended.

If you see wildfire, call 999.

Today our drivers have been getting to grips with the fire services new water carrier, due to be on the run in the near future. With the appliance based at Wadebridge Community Fire Station we will be able to assist in keeping the water carrier on the run 24/7/365 and provide relief crews at protracted incidents.

Firefighters will continue to train with the new equipment ready to respond as soon as it is operational.

Thanks to Phil James from CFRS driver training for his expertise.

The first incident took place at 02:00 on Friday morning after a bedroom fire was reported at a local hotel. Crews from Padstow Community Fire Station and Bodmin Community Fire Station provided support and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and Devon & Cornwall Police also attended. All guests were safely evacuated without injury and moved to alternative accommodation.

At 19:48 on Friday evening, crews were mobilised to a chip pan fire at a public house in Padstow. Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the building to put out the fire. The property was fully evacuated and no injuries were reported.

At 17:20 on Sunday, two appliances from Newquay and Wadebridge were initially mobilised to a vehicle fire. Following several calls reporting that the fire had spread from the vehicle to a nearby property, a third appliance from Padstow was mobilised.

Upon arrival, crews found a camper van fully alight, with the fire having extended to a residential building. A fourth appliance was subsequently requested from Newquay.

Firefighters used six breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets, one safety jet, one covering jet, three thermal imaging cameras, a triple extension ladder, and a positive pressure ventilation fan to bring the fire under control. It has been confirmed that no injuries were reported. All resources left the scene by 19:20.
