ARMY CADETS OPEN DAY THIS SATURDAY!!!

Curious about the Army Cadet Force?

Come along to our Open Day in Mastrick, Aberdeen!

Are you aged 12 - 18 and looking for something new to try?

Are you a parent or carer wanting to find out more about the opportunities available to your young person?

Or are you an adult interested in becoming a volunteer and helping inspire the next generation?

The Scots Dragoon Guards Detachment of 2nd Battalion the Highlanders Army Cadet Force (ACF) is opening its doors to the local community and we'd love to welcome you along.

Interested in becoming a cadet?

Throughout the day, our senior cadets will be taking the lead at various interactive stands, showcasing some of the skills and activities they enjoy, including:

- First aid
- Fieldcraft
- Drill (for example, marching)
- Music

We'll also be running our 'Guess the name of the bear' challenge! Have a guess for just 50p, with a great prize up for grabs.

Being a cadet is about so much more than drill and fieldcraft. It's an opportunity to build confidence, learn practical skills, develop leadership and teamwork, make friends and take on new challenges.

Interested in volunteering?

We're also keen to welcome adults aged 18 and over who may be interested in joining the Army Cadet Force as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer (CFAV) to lead the next generation of cadets.

Our adult volunteers play an important part in helping young people develop confidence, learn new skills and make memories that last a lifetime. You don't need any previous military experience to get involved. Training and support are provided.

If you've ever considered volunteering, working with young people or giving something back to your local community, come along, meet the team and find out more.

BREAKING - MORE SPORTING SUCCESS FOR 2HLDRS

Once again, 2HLDRS cadets have enjoyed a successful weekend on the playing fields of Altcar Training Camp in Merseyside.

A total of eight 2HLDRS cadets travelled to the camp on Friday to compete in the 2026 ACF National Rugby 7s & Archery Competition, representing Scotland in their respective teams.

We are delighted to announce that three of our cadets are returning home with silver medals.

Cadet Flett (Bridge of Don) won silver as a member of the Scotland Junior Girls Rugby Team, while Cadet Davidson (Aberdeen RAMC) and Cadet McInline (Turriff) also secured silver medals as members of Scotland’s Junior Archery Team.

Cadet Curnock (Aberdeen PARA) and Cadet Michalski (Woodside), who represented the Scotland Junior Boys Rugby Team, also performed extremely well, with their team finishing in third place.

Meanwhile, the Scotland Senior Boys Team, which included Cdt Cpl Rees (Turriff), finished in a respectable fourth place.

Adding to the achievement, all eight 2HLDRS competitors were awarded their National Colours in recognition of their participation in the prestigious competition.

This was a fantastic weekend of competition and an outstanding achievement by all eight cadets. Congratulations to everyone involved!

2HLDRS CADETS @ NATIONAL RUGBY 7s & ARCHERY

Good luck to the eight 2HLDRS cadets who are down south today competing in the ACF’s National Rugby 7s and Archery Competition.

Representing Scotland in the Junior Boys Rugby Team are Cadet Curnock (Aberdeen PARA) and Cadet Michalski (Woodside), while Cadet Corporal Rees (Turriff) is playing in the Senior Boys Team.

This year, we are pleased to also have Cadet Flett (Bridge of Don) playing in the Junior Girls Team.

As for the archery, we have great hopes for the four 2HLDRS archers who showed such promise in the 51x Brigade Competition earlier this year - and indeed make up half of the Scotland archery team!

Competing for Scotland in the Junior Team are Cadet Davidson (Aberdeen RAMC) and Cadet McInline (Turriff), while in the Senior Team we have Cadet Corporal Lloyd (Stonehaven) and Cadet Sergeant Raileanu (Aberdeen PARA).

Team Scotland will battle it out with ACF teams from England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We wish them all the very best of luck.

NATIONAL CADET WEEK - FIRST AID

On Day 4 of National Cadet Week, cadets across Somme Company have been developing their essential first aid skills through a range of practical activities.

In Boddam, Peterhead cadets carried out a patrol around the Cadet Training Centre, responding to a simulated casualty before heading indoors to practise CPR on Resusci Annie manikins under the guidance of Cadet Sergeant Elsey.

Meanwhile, in Ellon, cadets tackled simulated burn injuries, while those in Inverurie practised applying bandages and placing casualties into the recovery position.

Serious, potentially lifesaving skills were at the heart of the sessions, all delivered in an engaging and enjoyable way!

National Cadet Week - Day Three

Today, we take a moment to celebrate the Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) of 2HLDRS.

Without our dedicated adult volunteers, there would be no Army Cadet Force. Every week, our CFAVs give up their own time to plan and deliver lessons, organise activities, support training and make camps and events possible.

Their commitment goes far beyond the hours spent at their detachments. They work behind the scenes to create opportunities that help our cadets build confidence, resilience, teamwork and leadership skills.

To all our CFAVs, thank you for your time, dedication and everything you do for our cadets. Your contribution truly makes a difference.

We couldn’t do it without you!
