Where would you like Peterhead to be in 10 years’ time? Let us know in the comments. 👇

If you were talking about the town 10 years from now, what would you hope had changed for the better? We’re not looking for detailed project proposals, just your thoughts on the kind of place you’d like Peterhead to become.

We talk a lot about projects, funding and plans, but today we’d like to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

The We Are Peterhead Board’s vision is for Peterhead to be a safe, inclusive and forward-looking coastal town where everyone can thrive. That means making better use of empty and underused spaces, helping people feel safer and creating a town that reflects the pride and ambition of the people who live here.

That’s the Board’s vision, but what does a successful future for Peterhead look like to you?

🌳 A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our Parks and Greenspaces Survey!

In September, 130 local residents shared their views on Peterhead's parks and greenspaces, helping us better understand how these spaces are used and valued by the community.

It's clear that our greenspaces matter, with many people telling us they visit them every week.

📌 The key priorities highlighted were:

Better maintenance and more bins
Safer paths and improved lighting
More seating, shelter and accessible facilities
Family activities, town-centre greening and lido facilities
Enclosed dog areas
More opportunities for local people to get involved

Your feedback will help guide the We Are Peterhead Board as we look at future improvements and priorities for the town.

💚 Thank you for taking the time to share your views and help shape the future of Peterhead's greenspaces.

Who is the We Are Peterhead Board?

We often get asked whether We Are Peterhead is part of Aberdeenshire Council.

The We Are Peterhead Board is an independent, community-led partnership created through the UK Government's Pride in Place programme. Its purpose is to give local people a stronger voice in shaping investment and decisions that affect Peterhead.

Aberdeenshire Council supports the Board and acts as the accountable body for the programme, but investment decisions and governance are the responsibility of the Board alone.

What makes the Board different?

✅ Independent leadership with an independent Chair who cannot be an elected representative.
✅ Brings together people from across the community, including businesses, community organisations, public bodies, youth voices, faith groups, culture and heritage interests.
✅ Makes decisions based on community engagement, evidence and local priorities.
✅ Acts as a partner, investor and advocate for Peterhead.
✅ Uses long-term UK Government funding to help deliver projects that support the town's vision.

The Board's key principles are to be open about its decisions, empower local groups, support community-led projects, work in partnership, and be a strong voice for Peterhead.

We Are Peterhead is delighted to be working with Peterhead Academy's School of Citizenship on an exciting project focused on improving Peterhead through meaningful youth engagement.

The young citizens at Peterhead Academy have already started brainstorming ideas to make a positive difference in Peterhead and will soon begin researching their proposals with support from the University of Aberdeen, helping to build evidence and justification for their ideas.

We are looking forward to working with the School of Citizenship over the coming months and seeing the creativity, passion and fresh perspectives that these young people can bring to the future of Peterhead.

📣 You said, we listened!

🏀 Outdoor basketball facilities

Overall, it was clear that you value affordable, accessible facilities for everyone.
