🌿 Want to discover more about Heath Pond? 🦆

Curious about the current condition of the pond, the wildlife that lives there, and the important work being done to care for this special local habitat?

🎙️ Listen to the Shine Radio interview with our Ranger, Jacob, as he shares an insight into the Heath Pond, the wildlife that calls it home, and some of the challenges and opportunities involved in looking after this wonderful natural space.

There is a concern about the water levels in The Pond, says Jacob Gibson, the Town Ranger, and it is getting close to the lowest ever. Fishing has been suspended due to the low levels; to prevent fish being landed by being dragged along the pond bed. Jacob says the water quality is very good; no fis...

🦆 Please Help Protect the Wildlife on the Heath 🐕‍🦺

We’re asking everyone who walks their dogs on the Heath to please be extra vigilant and help us protect the wildlife that lives there.

All dogs must be kept on leads, and even when using a long line or running lead, please make sure your dog remains under control and close enough for you to prevent it from chasing or attacking wildlife.

Sadly, another duck was killed by a dog today, despite the dog being on a running lead. This is unfortunately not the first time this has happened.

The ducks and other wildlife on the Heath have nowhere to escape when they are chased. What may seem like harmless excitement or a dog simply “having a run” can have devastating consequences for wildlife.

🙏 Please keep your dogs under control, give the ducks plenty of space, and do not allow them to chase birds or other wildlife.

We know the vast majority of dog walkers are responsible and care about the Heath and its wildlife. We’re simply asking everyone to take that extra bit of care so we can prevent any more unnecessary deaths.

No Fishing - Petersfield Heath

Due to water levels continuing to drop and shallow edges and bars appearing across the pond, the bailiff team have discussed this matter and made the decision to close the pond to fishing as from Tuesday 29th September until further notice.

This closure is based around the safety and wellbeing of the fish and the wildlife around the pond, the water quality remains good and we will continue to monitor the situation.
