Thank you to everyone who has let us know about the tree that has blown over on the footpath on Wells Walk. We have reported this to the Public Rights of Way team at North Yorkshire Council. They will be dealing with quite a few incidents after the recent storms but hopefully it will be cleared very soon.

It was a grey and damp day yesterday but our town clerk was out checking assets after the storm at the weekend. It's important that we check trees, fences and buildings after a named storm so that we can organise any repairs needed to keep our open spaces safe and well maintained.

If you see any damage or any trees that could be a concern, particularly in the Community Park or Whitby Road cemetery, please let us know by ringing the office or emailing [email protected].

At our last monthly meeting, the Council gave permission for Ryedale Special Families to use the Community Park for their Big Push 24 Hours Playground Challenge! They are holding this challenge to fundraise for a standard swing, and a basket swing to be installed at their Pickering site.
The RSF team will be spending 24 hours on the swings, and are asking for people to support them by having a go on the swings, donating, or even just sharing the event.
They offer an invaluable service to our community, and we hope this fundraiser goes well!

📢 We need your help please 📢
From 10am Saturday 24 October we're asking Ryedale Special Families supporters to join our playground challenge! We're spending 24 hours on the swings at Woodlands Park in Pickering, to fundraise for our own 😄

Could you give us a ‘big push’ to help us purchase an inclusive basket swing and standard playground swing?

You can get involved by:
✅ Taking part - come along and have a go on the swings, we'd love for lots of people to join in the challenge
✅ Fundraising - ask your family, friends, colleagues to sponsor you for a shift on the swings! (Night owls would be very welcome to keep our Lead Fundraiser, Kirsty, company in the wee hours!)
✅ Donating - every pound will help us reach our target
✅ Sharing - help us spread the word

We are extremely thankful for Pickering Town Council allowing us to use Woodlands Park for this challenge ☺️ (and we promise not to disturb local residents - we won't be noisy overnight 😴).

We are also very grateful to Malton Town Council for kick-starting our fundraising, with their generous £500 donation 🫶

The town council is proud to support this year's 1940s weekend, which is organised and managed by Pickering Town Community Interest Company .

The CIC has put a huge amount of work into planning a range of entertainment for both Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th October and we hope that residents will enjoy this rebranded event which focuses on the music, fashion and culture of the 1940s.

There will be parking suspensions on Smiddy Hill and in the Market Place on Friday evening and throughout Saturday and Sunday. The Market Place and Smiddy Hill will be completely closed from 8am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Visitor parking is available at the Recreation Club on Mill Lane, at the old Trout Farm near the railway station, and at the Galtres Holiday Park on Malton Road where there will be a park and ride system running over the weekend.

Programmes for the weekend are on sale now in Reeds for £3 each, with all proceeds going towards next year's event. Follow the dedicated page Pickering 1940s Weekend for more information.
