September round up! 🚒

In September we attended 35 emergency incidents.

🚪 7 - Gain entries
🔥 6 - Building fires
🔔 14 - Automatic fire alarms
🔥 2 - Fires in the open
🚑 3 - Assist Ambulance
🔥 1 - Large vehicle fire
💦 1 - Water on electrics

A couple of recommendations from us this October… 🎃🍂

🔔 Check you have a working smoke alarm.

🪵 If you have a log burner or open fire, get your chimney serviced and swept.

🚗 Check your tyres, make sure they have the appropriate tred and are inflated for those wetter, slippier roads.

A few simple checks now can help keep you, your family and your home safe throughout autumn.

An enjoyable evening at Woldgate School Careers Fair, inspiring the next generation of On-Call Firefighters! 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒

Tonight was all about inspiring young people and showing them what a career in the Fire & Rescue Service can offer.

But remember, becoming an On-Call Firefighter has no age limit. Whether you’re just starting out or looking for a new challenge later in life, it’s never too late to join our team! 🚒🔥

Today, we headed out to support Sir Kevin Sinfield and his team as they passed through Pocklington as part of his incredible 7 in 7 challenge, continuing his phenomenal fundraising and awareness for the MND community.

It was fantastic to see so many people out showing their support and to give Kevin and the team a big Pocklington welcome! 👏🚒

Today, we came together to observe a minute’s silence in remembrance of all those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001.

We especially remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics and other emergency workers who ran towards danger while others were trying to escape.

343 firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice that day, alongside members of other emergency services who gave their lives while trying to save others.

We remember their courage, their selflessness and their sacrifice, as well as the thousands of innocent people whose lives were lost and the families, friends and colleagues they left behind.

25 years on, we remember.

🔥 It’s Chimney Fire Safety Week! 🔥

As the weather cools, it’s the perfect time to make sure your chimney is clean, safe and ready for use.

Chimney fires are often caused by built-up soot or creosote igniting inside the flue, posing serious risks to your home. Regular sweeping by a certified professional helps prevent fires, improves efficiency and keeps harmful fumes out of your living space.

✅ Sweep your chimney regularly
✅ Clear bird nests and debris
✅ Use a fire guard with open fires
✅ Burn only good quality fuel
✅ Fully extinguish fires before bed or leaving your home
✅ Make sure you have a working smoke alarm on every level of your home

📌 How often should you sweep?
Wood: Quarterly when in use
Coal: Twice a year
Smokeless fuels, oil, gas: At least once a year

Whether you're a homeowner, renter, or landlord, chimney safety is your responsibility.

Stay safe this season! 🍂

We are absolutely delighted to announce that our Pocklington Fire Station Open Day raised an amazing £1,000 for The Fire Fighters Charity! ❤️

The Fire Fighters Charity provides vital support to serving and retired members of the UK fire and rescue community and their families, helping with physical health, mental wellbeing and social support when it’s needed most.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, donated, bought tombola tickets, visited the stalls and helped make the day such a success. Your support really does mean a lot to us.

We’d also like to say a massive thank you to all of the local businesses and individuals who generously donated prizes for our tombola. We had some fantastic prizes this year, and we simply couldn’t have raised this amount without your generosity.

Thank you as well to all of the stalls, organisations and attractions that joined us on the day, many of whom also kindly made donations towards the final total. Your support helped make the Open Day what it was.

We’ve had so much support from across Pocklington and the surrounding area, and we’re incredibly grateful to be part of such a supportive community. 👏

There were so many people and businesses involved that we apologise if we’ve accidentally missed anyone from our thank-yous, please know that every donation, prize and bit of support was hugely appreciated.

Thank you, Pocklington! 🚒❤️

A huge thank you must go to our local community for the continued support we receive. In particular, we’d like to recognise the local farmers who have supported crews at several large field and agricultural fires, providing invaluable assistance, machinery and water when it’s been needed most. 🚜💧

We’re always keen to hear from people who live or work locally and would be interested in becoming an On-Call Firefighter. You’ll receive full training, get paid for your time and become part of a team responding to emergencies and supporting your local community.

Thank you, Pocklington for continuing to support your local fire station.

Keep an eye out soon as we will be announcing how much we raised at our open day for the Firefighters charity. We will also be thanking all local businesses who supported the day.
