📢 Planning an event in Portishead?

Following Local Devolution, Portishead Town Council is now responsible for managing events on a number of open spaces, parks and recreation grounds that have recently transferred to our care.

We welcome a wide range of events that help bring our community together, including community celebrations, charity fundraisers, family fun days, sporting activities, festivals and public gatherings.

Events play an important role in making Portishead a vibrant place to live, work and visit, and we're here to help organisers navigate the process.

If you're considering holding an event on Town Council land, please get in touch with us as early as possible. We'll help guide you through the permissions required and the arrangements needed to ensure your event is safe, successful and enjoyable for everyone.

🎃 Don't Ghost Your Pumpkin! 👻

Halloween is nearly here and many of us are planning our spooky designs, or have already carved our ghoulish pumpkins. 🎃

Don't waste your pumpkin though. It's packed with healthy vitamins and minerals and can be eaten, composted and recycled. 💚

Every year, over 30 million pumpkins are bought for Halloween, but many are carved and never eaten. 😮

A scary 18,000 tonnes of edible pumpkin ends up in the bin each year. That's around £26.7 million worth of food wasted! 💰

Instead of just binning it, give your pumpkin a second life! 🎃♻️

✅ Eat it - Turn it into soup, curry, cake or chutney.
✅ Share it - Use as much as you can before it starts to spoil.
✅ Recycle it - Pumpkin flesh, seeds and carvings can all go in your food waste recycling caddy. Chop up larger pumpkins so they fit inside and the lid can close properly.
✅ Compost it - Pumpkins are great for home composting and can be turned into a valuable resource for your garden.

🚫 Please don't leave pumpkins in parks, woods or hedgerows. While it may seem like a treat for wildlife, pumpkins are not a natural food source and can harm local wildlife and habitats.

Last year, North Somerset residents recycled over 3,000 tonnes of food waste during October and November. Let's keep the momentum going and make sure no pumpkin goes to waste!

🎃 Take the pledge this Halloween: Eat it, recycle it, don't ghost it!
