🌺📣🌺📣🌺📣🌺📣🌺📣🌺

We're busy attaching your beautiful Poppies to the Rawreth Remembers Poppy Cascade.

If anyone has any Poppies they'd still like us to add to the Cascade it's not too late, we're collecting Poppies until Friday 🌺

This week the amazing Gladwells Pet & Country Store, Rayleigh based on Lubards Farm Hullbridge Road have kindly said they will be our drop off point.

We'd like to say a big thank you to Mark and the team for helping us, the store is open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm, there's plenty of free parking right outside and if you've never visited them before, while you're dropping off Poppies have a look around.

If anyone is unable to drop off Poppies please let us know either commenting below or by emailing our Clerk [email protected] and we'll arrange to come and collect.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us create the Cascade, your support has been amazing and it really is appreciated 👏

NEWS 📰 Rochford may get more time to submit a sound Local Plan.

This afternoon, the Housing and Planning Minister, Matthew Pennycook MP, wrote to councils offering some of them more time to submit their Local Plans.

At the moment, plans must be submitted to Government by 31 December 2026. The letter outlines an extension to 31 March 2027. We don't yet know whether this offer applies to Rochford. We're working with Government officials to find out as quickly as possible, and we'll let you know as soon as we have an answer.

💡 Why this matters
In September, the Council wrote to the Government formally requesting a two-month extension. We asked for this so councillors would have more time to properly review the evidence accompanying the draft Local Plan before it goes out for public consultation. We hope the Minister's letter means that request can now be granted.

On 2 October, the Government issued a holding direction which means that the Council is not allowed to proceed to consultation until the Government has reviewed the evidence. You can read this letter, and the Council's replies to it, on our website.

The Government has still not lifted the holding direction. That makes timelines very tight. It is essential to fit in a six-week consultation before the Local Plan can be sent to the inspector, so even if the holding direction was lifted next week, this would be challenging - and could mean a consultation running over Christmas.

🗓️ What happens next?
Nothing changes for now. Our commitment to getting a Local Plan in place has not changed either. A Local Plan gives us more say over where new homes go and what infrastructure comes with them, and helps to protect Rochford District from the wrong development in the wrong places.

When the final consultation opens, you'll be able to have your say. We will keep you updated at every stage.

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

18.35 Rawreth Lane is now open in both directions.

17.15 Rawreth Lane remains closed in both directions, recovery truck has just arrived.

15.55
Two vehicle collision, Rawreth Lane near Exmouth Drive, the eastbound carriageway is completely blocked, westbound partially, there are currently no emergency services at the scene so traffic is queuing in both directions, vehicles are currently getting past by mounting the pavement.

Both vehicles will need recovery so expect delays and allow extra time ideally find an alternative route.

Please take extra care in this area.

We hope everyone involved is ok 🙏

The warm summer days may have ended, but our zero tolerance of flyposters hasn't.

It's really very simple, if you continue to put them up, they will be taken down 🤷‍♀️🤷
