Halloween costumes are part of the fun, but they can be a real fire risk. Please read and share our tips on choosing costumes carefully.
⚠️Always look for costumes that carry the UKCA or CE mark, showing they meet relevant safety standards.
🕯️Keep capes, veils and loose clothing away from naked flames, especially pumpkins and candles.
🔥Avoid highly flammable materials if making a costume at home
🔦Add reflective accessories or carry a torch to help improve visibility after dark.

Smoke alarms can give someone the few extra seconds they need to escape in a fire. Did you know that the average smoke alarm has a lifespan of just ten years and then needs replacing.
To keep your alarms in working order:
- Make sure there is at least one smoke alarm on every level of your home
- Test your smoke alarms by pushing the button every month
- Check that your smoke alarms are less than 10 years old
- Change the batteries every year. Never remove them.
- Fit smoke alarms in the right place - on landings and hallways and near bedrooms. Also consider fitting them in rooms which have electrical appliances – e.g. a heater or charger – or other fire risks
- Take a moment to check on your loved ones who may need help to ensure they’re fully protected.
You can book a safe and well visit for a fire safety advice, check that your smoke alarms are working and replace or install new ones if needed: https://orlo.uk/XG5Ci

The cyclist in front of you isn't "just a cyclist".

They're someone's son, daughter, partner, friend or colleague trying to get home safely.

A little patience and plenty of space can make all the difference.

As the nights and mornings get darker, pedestrians and cyclists become more vulnerable on our roads, especially children.

On Monday 26th October we are holding a joint free family road safety event in the Rope Walk shopping centre in Nuneaton between 10am - 2pm.

We will be joined by the local air ambulance, Warwickshire Police, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue, Road Safety Education Team and the Child Brain Injury Trust. We will also be joined by Nuneaton Bid who will be running a free road safety themed arts and craft session.

We will be promoting the importance of 'BE BRIGHT, BE SEEN, BE SAFE' and wearing helmets whilst cycling or scootering.

There will be bike marking, story time and some free giveaways to help children stay safe and be seen.

No need to book - just turn up .
