Our Prevention Team and crew from Rushden Fire Station are today, (14th October) at Higham Recreation Ground, Saffron Road Park, Higham Ferrers NN10 8EF

They are offering advice around Halloween, bonfire and firework safety until 4pm. You can also talk to the about concerns you may have around deliberate fire setting.

This week, firefighters from Rushden Fire Station, our joint Arson Task Force and a local PCSO visited the Irthlingborough Co-op shop to speak to local residents and chat about safety.
Advice was wide ranging, but the hot topic was reducing fire risks during this dry summer weather, staying safe in and around water and how to report arson.

If you know or anyone committing arson, please call Northamptonshire Police on 101 or if a crime is in progress, please call 999.

Our crew from Rushden Fire Station are at Stanwick Lakes most of today and tomorrow (incidents allowing) during the hot weather, helping to keep people safe in and around the water.

If you see them and you have any questions about water, fire or road safety or even what it is like being a firefighter, please stop by for a chat. They are also showing all the children who are off school around the fire engine.

This Drowning Prevention Week, crews form Rushden Fire Station have been speaking to people at the local swimming pool about water safety and have also been supporting the trainee lifeguards.

Remember as the weather warms up, keep yourself and others safe in and around water. Jumping into water isn’t just a quick cool‑down, it can be life-threatening in seconds. It doesn't matter how good you are at swimming; cold water shock can cause you to get into difficulties and drown.

If you spot someone in difficulty, remember CALL - FLOAT - THROW

✅ CALL
- Dial 999 and ask for Fire & Rescue Service
- Shout to get attention from others nearby
- Keep eyes on the person in the water at all times

✅ FLOAT
- Encourage the person to float
- Ask them to stay calm and control their breathing

✅ THROW
- Throw something to help – don’t go in
- Use anything that floats (Lifebuoy, throw line, bag, bottle or football)
