HIGHWAYS UPDATE AT LITTLE POLGOOTH!
The rigging / drilling works are due to commence from Wednesday 14th October and should take approximately 2 weeks to complete. The working hours will be approximately 9am until 4pm. The team will try to retain the pedestrian access that’s in place along the road, but the access may be interrupted and stages through the works, for safety reasons.
Following the first phase of works above, there will be approximately 4 weeks of construction works that follow, which will take place from approximately 7:15am until 5pm each day.
Highways will endeavour to provide any updates, should the situation and timescales change.
Thank you.

STICKER OPEN SPACE (DOG FIELD)
📣Whilst there are 3 dog waste bins provided in this field, the Parish Council requests that these bins are not used to dispose of carrier bags containing dirty nappies.
💷The disposal of household waste in the bins is resulting in additional tonnage charges under the PC’s waste management contract. It also creates extra work for the Parish Council’s part-time maintenance worker.
To help keep these costs down for everyone please use your own household waste bins for nappies and other domestic waste keeping the dog waste bins for their intended purpose.
Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.

Exciting news for St Austell Shed! 🔨👏
Tune in to BBC Spotlight this evening, Wednesday 7th October, to hear about the fantastic progress being made towards securing a permanent home for St Austell Shed.

Working alongside the UK Charity Men’s Sheds Association, the project aims to create a welcoming place where people of all ages can make, mend, learn, share skills and most importantly, connect with others.
St Mewan Parish Council is proud to support this very worthwhile community project and to play its part in helping St Austell Shed establish a permanent base in Trewoon.
🔨 A building. A workshop. A community. A future.

A big thank you to our lovely Di Thompson this morning for coming to the Clerks’ aid in Polgooth! 😊
We were trying to download the speed data and thought our little step up would be quite sufficient… well, clearly we were living in a world of optimism! 😂
Di disappearing off to find us a proper little step stool so we could actually reach the equipment! 🪜🤣
Honestly, you couldn’t make it up — all part of the glamorous life of Parish Clerks! 😂
Thank you Di, you’re an absolute star 🌟 and we promise we’ll bring a bigger step next time! 😂

Neighbourhood Priority Statement
St Mewan Parish Council is preparing to produce a Neighbourhood Priority Statement and is looking for a limited number of volunteers to be part of a working party.

A Neighbourhood Priorities Statement, or NPS, is a way for local communities to tell Cornwall Council what matters most to them when planning for future growth, development, and infrastructure. This could include things such as housing, transport, public spaces, community facilities, local services, the natural environment, heritage, landscape, and the character of our villages.

An NPS is not the same as a Neighbourhood Development Plan. It does not create planning policies, and it cannot allocate land or stop land being allocated for development. However, it is an opportunity to influence Cornwall Council’s new Local Plan by clearly setting out what the parish values, what local issues need to be addressed, and what infrastructure or improvements would be needed if future growth takes place.

The Document needs to be completed and presented to Cornwall Council within a year and so volunteers will need to be aware of the commitment to the project.

If you would like to be part of the working group please contact the Clerk at: [email protected] by 30 September 2026.
