🏆 Cleveland Fire Brigade | People Awards 2026 🏆

The People Awards are a special opportunity to recognise and celebrate the exceptional contributions, achievements and commitment of our colleagues from across the Service.

🚒 On 22nd October, we had the pleasure of attending this special event at Teesside University, having been nominated in the Community Engagement category!

🏅 Award Description:

"Recognised for their outstanding dedication, service and commitment to supporting and strengthening their local community."

🏆 AND WE WON! 🎉

We are incredibly proud to have received this award, recognising our commitment to supporting and engaging with our local community.

👏 It was also a special occasion for our recently retired colleague, Firefighter Les Turner, who was awarded an Fire and Rescue Service Long Service Medal!

🎖️ This medal recognises decades of dedicated service, commitment and good conduct within the Fire and Rescue Service.

❤️ We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who nominated us.

👏 A massive congratulations to everyone who was nominated and to all the winners across the other categories. It was fantastic to see so many colleagues recognised for their hard work and dedication.

Finally, a special thank you to everyone involved in organising the People Awards and making the event such a success!

🚒 Retirement Announcement | FF Les Turner 👨‍🚒

Today, we celebrate the retirement of FF Les Turner, who is retiring after an incredible 40 years of service.

Throughout his career, Les has served at both Skelton Fire Station and Saltburn Fire Station, dedicating four decades to serving the community, responding to emergencies and helping to keep the public safe.

Les has always been passionate about making a positive difference in the community. He designed and built the Santa sleigh for our annual Christmas parade and was always willing to attend community events and activities.

During educational visits involving local schools and community groups, Les always made a valuable contribution, helping to educate and inspire the younger generation about fire safety and the work of the fire service.

Les has also been a valued role model for new recruits, supporting their development, sharing his knowledge and experience, and helping them grow in their roles as firefighters.

In the early hours of the morning, no matter what time the call came in, Les always had a smile on his face! 😊

We’ll certainly miss the chats and laughs in the fire engine. In fact, we reckon Les might be the only person ever to have managed to fall asleep on the way to an incident! To be fair, it was a 45-minute journey. 🚒

Forty years of service is a remarkable achievement and a true testament to Les’s commitment, dedication and professionalism throughout his career.

On behalf of everyone at Saltburn Fire Station, we would like to thank Les for his many years of service and the positive impact he has made on both the fire service and our local community.

We wish Les all the very best in his retirement and hope he enjoys this next chapter, with plenty of time to relax and enjoy a well deserved rest! 👏

Thank you for 40 years of dedication and service, Les. 🚒👏

🌧️💨 It’s going to be a wet and windy weekend!

We still need to keep on top of keeping our fire appliance clean, whatever the weather. 🚒

However, please take care and stay safe this weekend!

🚨 Strong winds and heavy rain are continuing to affect our area, creating hazardous conditions on the roads, along the coastline and in some outdoor spaces.

🌊 Please stay away from the coast, beaches, piers and cliff tops. Large waves and powerful gusts can be unpredictable, putting you at serious risk.

🚗 If you're travelling, take extra care. Slow down, leave plenty of space between vehicles, use your headlights when visibility is reduced, and watch out for fallen branches, debris and surface water.

⚠️ Never drive or walk through flood water. Just 30cm (12 inches) of moving water can be enough to float a car and sweep it away.

🌳 Strong winds can bring down trees and branches, so avoid unnecessary journeys where possible and take care when outdoors.

🏠 Secure any loose items around your property and be prepared for possible power outages.

📱 Check the latest weather forecasts and warnings before heading out.

💙 Please look out for family, friends and neighbours, and don't take unnecessary risks during the storm.

🚒 Station Visit: Saltburn Scout Group (Cubs) 🔥

Yesterday evening, we had the pleasure of welcoming our local Saltburn Cubs to the fire station! 👋

🚒 During their visit, we:

🔥 Discussed fire safety, including staying safe at home and keeping safe around Bonfire Night.

👨‍🚒 Had a look around our fire engine and learned more about the equipment we use.

💦 Even gave the Cubs the opportunity to have a go with the hose reel!

It was fantastic to meet the group, share some important fire safety advice and give them a little insight into life at Saltburn Community Fire Station. 😊

A big thank you to the Cubs and their leaders for coming along. We hope you all enjoyed your visit 👏

🚀🚒 THE FUTURE OF FIRE ENGINES? FLYING APPLIANCES! 🚒🚀

With the introduction of the new Tesla Roadster that can apparently fly, who knows… perhaps flying fire engines could be next! 😂

Until then, we’ll have to stick to the roads. So, here are a few important tips on what to do when you spot a fire engine approaching in your rear-view mirror with blue lights flashing and sirens sounding. 🔵

🚗 WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

✅ DON’T PANIC!
Stay calm, stay alert and keep your music low enough to hear approaching sirens.

✅ DON’T BRAKE SUDDENLY!
Sudden braking could put you and other road users at risk.

✅ PULL OVER SAFELY.
Signal your intentions and find a safe place to allow the fire engine to pass.

✅ MAKE ROOM.
Fire engines are much wider than cars, so give our crews plenty of space.

✅ THINK AHEAD.
Avoid stopping near bends, hill crests or narrow sections of road where visibility or access is restricted.

✅ KEEP OFF THE PAVEMENT.
Don’t mount the kerb or put pedestrians at risk to make room.

✅ STAY SAFE AND FOLLOW THE RULES.
Never put yourself or others in danger trying to get out of the way.

✅ CHECK BEFORE MOVING OFF.
There may be more than one emergency vehicle responding.

🚨 REMEMBER: Every second counts when we're responding to an emergency, but your safety and the safety of everyone else on the road comes first.
