Do you recognise these people?

We’d like to speak to them as they may have information that could help an investigation after a gravestone was damaged at Seaham Cemetery on Sunday, October 18.

They are thought to have arrived at the cemetery in a white car.

We appreciate the image quality isn’t the best, but hope that somebody may recognise them.

If you have any information that could assist the investigation or any dashcam footage of the car, please email PC Fincham at [email protected] or call 101, extension number 209774, quoting crime reference number CRI00714455.

🚨 Closure Order Granted in Seaham 🚨

Today, Seaham Neighbourhood Policing Team welcomes the granting of a 3-month Closure Order on a property in Marlborough, Seaham that has been the source of persistent anti-social behaviour and concern for local residents.

The address had become a hive of anti-social behaviour and a blight on the community, generating repeated complaints and impacting the quality of life of those living nearby. Residents should be able to enjoy their homes and neighbourhood without having to put up with the disruption and distress associated with this property.

🚫 A Closure Order means that the property must be closed and secured, with access prohibited to anyone other than those authorised by the court. Anyone who enters, or remains in, the property without permission during the period of the order commits a criminal offence and may be arrested

🤝 Working alongside our partner agencies, and with the support of information provided by local residents, we gathered the evidence necessary to secure this Closure Order. The order, granted by the court today, will remain in place for three months and is intended to provide immediate relief to those affected by the ongoing issues.

This result is a positive outcome for the community and demonstrates what can be achieved when residents, partner agencies and police work together.

We would also like to thank local residents for their patience while this order was being sought. We understand the impact that ongoing anti-social behaviour can have on a community, and we appreciate those who continued to report incidents, provide information and support our enquiries throughout the process. Your perseverance has been vital in helping us achieve this outcome.

🏡 Today isn't just about closing a property; it's about helping residents reclaim their neighbourhood and restoring some much-needed peace and quiet.

Thank you to everyone who helped us achieve this result.

👀Be Bright, Be Seen.

As the darker nights draw in, Durham Constabulary is encouraging young people to stand out and be visible when out and about.

The annual Be Bright Be Seen campaign will see officers distribute reflective key fobs to primary school children and carrying out school talks to remind our youngsters of the importance of being seen especially on the way to and from school.

Top tips include:
🔆Wearing bright clothing
🔆Attaching a reflective item to your school bag or coat
🔆Taking extra care when crossing the road to make sure the coast is clear
🔆Have appropriate lights attached to your bike or scooter – and don’t forget your helmet!

The reflective fobs have been funded by Durham Police and Crime Commissioner, Joy Allen, and will be initially distributed to one school in County Durham and one in Darlington.

The fobs are designed to be attached to dark school uniforms, coats, and bags, making children more visible during their journeys to and from school.

Motorists are also being encouraged to do their bit by making sure their vehicle lights are in full working order and that their eyesight is up to the mark.

This will be tested as the campaign runs alongside the force’s Operation Insight, with officers carrying out random checks on drivers’ eyesight against the legal 20m rule, just as you did in your driving test.

Any driver that fails the test will automatically have their driving licence revoked under Cassie’s Law. It is your responsibility to make sure your eyesight it up to a suitable standard.

Following information received from members of the public, officers from Seaham NPT attended at a property on Church Street, Seaham, last week and uncovered a cannabis cultivation.

A total of 71 cannabis plants were seized and have since been destroyed.

The property's electricity supply had been illegally bypassed, creating a serious fire risk to the occupants, businesses and neighbouring properties. NEDL attended the address and made the scene safe.

Some signs that a property may be being used to grow cannabis include:
✅ A property appearing vacant or rarely occupied
✅ Unusual visitors or vehicles attending at all hours
✅ Deliveries of lighting equipment, fertiliser, piping or building materials
✅ Constant noise from extractor fans
✅ Strong, unusual smells that come and go
✅ Internal building work or modifications taking place

If you have concerns about suspected drug activity in your area, please report it to police via 101 or online. Information can also be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers.

Thank you to everyone who continues to report concerns and help us keep our communities safe. Your information makes a real difference.

This evening, we held our Haswell PACT (Police and Communities Together) meeting at the Haswell and Haswell Plough Community Centre.

We were also pleased to be joined by PC Applegarth from our Response Team, supporting our ongoing commitment to working closely with the communities we serve.

PACT meetings provide a valuable opportunity for residents to speak directly with their local policing team, raise concerns, highlight issues affecting their neighbourhood and work together to find positive, practical solutions.

Community engagement is at the heart of neighbourhood policing. By listening to local people, understanding what matters most to them and working together, we can help make our communities safer and stronger.
