🚨 Tasking 🚨
27th Sept at 2018hrs – Red Flare Reported

HM Coastguard Seahouses was tasked following a report of a red flare seen offshore.

The team carried out a search of the area, alongside Howick Coastguard Rescue Team with nothing located. A Maritime fixed-wing aircraft also conducted a sweep of the area, again with nothing found.

With no persons or vessels located and no further information received after making contact with the first informant, the team was stood down and returned to station.

The caller did the right thing by reporting what they had seen. If you see something that concerns you or you're unsure whether someone may be in difficulty, always report it. Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

🚨 Tasking – Budle Bay - 27th sept -1343hrs

HM Coastguard Seahouses was tasked following a report of paddleboarders struggling to return to shore at Budle Bay.

The paddleboarders managed to reach the far side of the bay, where Coastguard Rescue Officers met them and safely escorted them back to their waiting family.

If you're heading out on the water, always wear a suitable flotation device and carry a reliable means of calling for help. Check the tides and weather conditions beforehand, and be particularly aware of offshore winds, which can quickly carry you away from the shore.

🚨 Tasking 🚨

HM Coastguard Seahouses were called today at 11:44 to respond to a report of a sailboarder in difficulty at Beadnell Bay alongside RNLI Seahouses Lifeboat Station's All weather lifeboat.

The teams carried out a visual search of the water. After further communication with the initial informant, it was confirmed that the suspected person was a pot marker close to Newton Bouy navigational marker.

The informants did the right thing by reporting their concern. This allowed the situation to be checked and ensured help could be sent if needed.

The team was stood down, and the incident was recorded as a false alarm with good intent.

We would always prefer to be called to a false alarm than someone to be worried about raising the alarm if they think they see something that doesn't look right.

Never worry about calling for help. If you get into difficulty, or see someone else in difficulty along the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

🚨 Emergency Services Day 🚨

Today we recognise the people across the emergency services who work 24/7, often in difficult and challenging conditions, to help keep our communities safe.

For HM Coastguard, that means working alongside colleagues from the Police, Ambulance Service, Fire and Rescue. Also Air Ambulance, RNLI and many other charities.

No single service can do everything alone. It’s the teamwork, trust and interoperability between us that makes the difference when someone needs help.

From the coastline to the roads, from the sea to the air β€” thank you to everyone who answers the call when others need them most.

One team. One purpose. Always ready. πŸ’™

πŸ•πŸŒŠ International Dog Day πŸŒŠπŸ•

Today is International Dog Day, so we're celebrating some of the four-legged members of the Coastguard family! 🐾

We love seeing dogs enjoying the coastline, but a day at the beach can bring some serious hazards.

🌊 Around water: Never assume your dog can swim β€” or even wants to! Waves, currents and cold water can quickly get them into difficulty. If your dog is going near or on the water, a properly fitted dog lifejacket is a great idea and can provide valuable extra protection.

πŸ–οΈ On the beach: Be aware of tides, soft sand and areas where your dog could become trapped or cut off.

πŸ§— Around cliffs: Keep dogs on a lead near cliff edges and steep ground. A dog chasing something or becoming frightened can quickly find itself somewhere it can't get back from.

And remember, if your dog gets into difficulty, don't put yourself at risk trying to rescue it. Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Stay safe, keep them close, and enjoy the coast together. 🐾❀️

Feel free to share a picture of your four legged friends in the comments ❀️😊

Last night we welcomed colleagues from the North East Ambulance Service to HM Coastguard Seahouses station.

The visit gave NEAS personnel the opportunity to learn more about our capabilities, see the equipment we carry, and understand how we can support each other during incidents along the coast and beyond.

Building relationships and understanding each other's capabilities is an important part of effective multi-agency working. When an incident occurs, knowing what resources are available and how we can work together helps us provide the best possible response.

A big thank you to our NEAS colleagues for taking the time to visit us. πŸš‘πŸŒŠ

🚨 Incident Response 🚨

Today, HM Coastguard Seahouses was tasked alongside Berwick Coastguard rescue team and Howick Coastguard Rescue Team to reports of persons cut off by the tide.

The RNLI Seahouses Lifeboat Station D-class was also tasked to assist, with teams responding to assess the situation and establish the safest way to assist those involved.

Fortunately, the persons were able to make their own way to safety before further assistance was required.

A good reminder of the importance of checking tide times and allowing plenty of time when exploring our coastline.

If you do find yourself in difficulty, never hesitate to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

🚨 Joint Training Exercise 🚨

Yesterday evening HM Coastguard Seahouses and Howick Coastguard Rescue Team came together for a joint training session.

The scenario involved a simulated tasking requiring the teams to implement a Business Continuity Plan (BCP), including setting up and monitoring backup radio equipment to maintain communications should normal systems become unavailable.

The exercise then moved on to a missing person (MISPER) search, giving both teams the opportunity to practise search techniques, communications and coordination in a realistic scenario.

Joint training like this is vital in keeping our teams operationally ready and ensuring we can continue to work effectively together when it matters.

πŸ‘‹ Fancy being part of it?
