Incident: Fire In The Open
Location: Langport
Crew: Max, Dan, Elliot, Lod, Paul
Attending Stations: Street, Yeovil

This morning, the crew were alerted to reports of a fire in the open near Langport. On arrival, the crew found a large pile of wood chippings well alight. Due to the size of the fire, a Make Pumps 3 was requested to provide additional personnel and water supplies.

Crews used CAF (Compressed Air Foam) and HRJs (Hose Reel Jets) to tackle the fire, while the farmer used their tele handler to carefully move the wood chippings. This allowed crews to access the seat of the fire and extinguish it more effectively. Due to the amount of wood chip it took the crews around 7 hours to full extinguish the fire. πŸš’πŸ₯΅πŸ”₯

πŸπŸš’ RAMBO RESCUE! πŸš’πŸ

This afternoon, the crew were alerted to reports of a ram that had become stuck inside a concrete pipe. On arrival, the Somerton crew found exactly that β€” a 100kg ram named Rambo firmly wedged inside the pipe!

Due to the unique nature of the incident, the crew had to think outside the box and make use of a number of different pieces of equipment carried on the fire engine. Using our chimney rods, the crew were able to feed a GP line around Rambo, while a hearth sheet was carefully positioned underneath him. Once everything was safely in place, the line was pulled, allowing Rambo to slide along the sheet and out of the pipe.

A happy Rambo was then left in the care of the farmers πŸπŸš’. This was also our 200th shout for the year πŸ“Ÿ

🚨29/8/26🚨
Incident: RTC (Road Traffic Collision)
Location: Aller
Crew: 82P1 Max, Lod, Ian, Elliot
Attending station: Bridgwater

Yesterday, Control received a call from Police requesting assistance at a road traffic collision (RTC).

One fire engine from Somerton and one from Bridgwater were mobilised to the incident. On arrival, crews confirmed a two-vehicle collision with one casualty trapped inside a vehicle.

Working closely alongside our colleagues from the Ambulance Service, crews developed a plan to safely remove the casualty. The vehicle was stabilised before the casualty was carefully extricated using a scoop stretcher. The casualty was then airlifted to hospital for further treatment.

All other casualties involved sustained minor injuries, with care of the scene later handed over to Police and Ambulance crews.

As soon as the crews returned to station, they were mobilised again β€” this time to reports of a vehicle fire in Babcary.

On arrival, crews found a single vehicle that was now on its roof. Thankfully, everyone was clear of the vehicle and safe. Crews worked to make the vehicle and surrounding area safe.

While crews were packing away, Police informed them of another small collision further along the road. Crews attended and once again made the area and vehicle safe before handing the scene over to Police.
