We're the largest working steam ship in Britain! A member of the National Historic Fleet she serves as a sea going tribute to Britain's maritime heritage.

The Steamship Shieldhall is the largest working steam ship in Britain. As a passenger you too can experience the golden age of steam by booking on an excursion or visiting her in Southampton. You can hire the whole ship or join us for an excursion. You can relax in one of the quietest, smoothest ships on the sea. You can visit the engine room and bridge. Smell the steam or the polish or both! Meanwhile, you can still hire the ship for parties, weddings or meetings alongside the berth in Southampton.

Although our sailing season has finished, there's still plenty happening aboard Shieldhall this winter!

Our popular Below Decks Tours offer a fascinating opportunity to explore areas of the ship normally closed to passengers, meet our volunteer crew and discover some of the important maintenance work taking place.

This is us for the next 6 months now, safely laid up for winter maintenance at Berth 110.

We have so many companies, people and organisations around Hampshire, The Solent and Southampton that have kept and do keep the SS Shieldhall going. Yet at this point, as the ship is gently resting alongside, we would especially like to give a massive thank you to ABP Southampton who provide key support to the Shieldhall and the charity that runs the ship.

In 1955, Shieldhall entered the service of the Glasgow Sludge Fleet.

She would go on to sail the Clyde for the next twenty one years, carrying waste to sea for dumping and passengers on her decks for a wonderful day out.
