For Bob, a Care Assistant at Anchor - St Edith's Court, it means bringing music, movement and plenty of encouragement to regular Zest sessions with residents.

Bob has been delivering Zest at the care home since completing his training, and says it’s his favourite part of the job.

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome a group of visitors from the University of Southampton, representing Malaysia, Africa and Indonesia. They came to visit Mayflower Court, bringing with them experience from a variety of care facilities in their own countries.

It was fantastic to meet everyone, share ideas and learn about the different cultures and approaches to care around the world. We had the opportunity to discuss how care is delivered in different countries and discover that, despite our differences, we often face similar challenges when it comes to providing the best possible care for those we support.

Visits like these are a wonderful opportunity to learn from one another, celebrate our differences and recognise how much we have in common. ❤️

A big thank you to everyone who visited us Yesterday. We hope you enjoyed your time at Mayflower Court as much as we enjoyed welcoming you!

Good Evening Everyone

Tomorrow we will be saying goodbye, for now, to our lovely Housekeeper, Caitlin, as she begins her maternity leave.
Catlin has been a valued member of the team, and we would like to thank her for all of her hard work, dedication, and the kindness she brings to our home every day.

We wish her lots of luck and happiness as she begins this exciting new chapter. We are all looking forward to meeting the newest addition to her family and cannot wait to hear all about the baby when the time comes.

From everyone here, we wish you a happy, healthy maternity leave, Catlin. Enjoy every precious moment!
Best wishes, your Mayflower family. xx

Happy Monday! 🐷🐑🐐
What a special day we had yesterday when a local farm visited us with some pigs, sheep, and the cutest little goats!
It was wonderful to see so many smiles, laughter, and moments of joy throughout the day. Our residents absolutely loved spending time with these friendly animals, enjoying plenty of cuddles, interaction, and conversation.
It was also lovely to welcome so many visitors who came along to share in the experience. The visit created a fantastic atmosphere and brought everyone together for a truly memorable day.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our Macmillan Coffee Morning today and helped make it such a special event.
It was wonderful to see so many people come together to support such an important cause. Whether you baked, donated, helped organise, volunteered your time, or simply joined us for a coffee and a chat, your support made a real difference.

The morning was filled with warmth, laughter, and community spirit, and it was lovely to see residents, relatives, colleagues, and visitors enjoying time together while raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Thank you for your generosity, kindness, and enthusiasm. Events like these remind us of the incredible difference we can make when we come together as a team and community.

💙 World Alzheimer’s Month at Mayflower Court 💙

September is World Alzheimer’s Month, with World Alzheimer’s Day taking place on 21st September — an important opportunity to raise awareness of dementia and, just as importantly, the support and information available to those affected by it.

One thing we hear time and time again is just how difficult it can be to know where to turn when a loved one receives a diagnosis of dementia, or when you begin to notice changes in their memory or thinking.

There can be so many questions, and sometimes you simply don’t know where to start.

That’s why, throughout September, you’ll find our Dementia Information Table in reception at Mayflower Court. 💙🪻

We’ve brought together a selection of useful information, leaflets and resources that you are very welcome to browse through and take away with you. Our team will also do our very best to help signpost you towards organisations and support services that may be able to help.

Whether you’re a relative, friend, visitor or member of our local community, please feel welcome to pop in, have a look through the information and join us for a cup of tea or coffee. ☕️

Sometimes having the right information — and knowing where to turn next — can make things feel just that little bit more manageable.

💙 You don’t have to have all the answers. Sometimes you just need somewhere to start. 💙

📮✍️ World Letter Writing Day - 1st September ✍️📮

In a world where technology is at our fingertips and instant messages have become the norm, the treasured art of sitting down and writing a letter is slowly being lost. Yet there is something truly special about putting pen to paper, sharing stories, and taking the time to connect with another person.

To celebrate World Letter Writing Day, our residents have teamed up with a care home St. Brelade’s Care Home in Cimla Neath South Wales, to exchange letters and become pen pals. This exciting project will give residents the opportunity to make new friendships, share experiences, and learn about life in another home.

When we asked our residents if they would like to take part, the enthusiasm was clear:

💌 "I love writing letters."

💌 "I'm excited to share what life is like in our home."

💌 "It will be lovely to hear about other people's lives and experiences."

Many of our residents fondly remember a time when letter writing was a regular part of life, and this project has already sparked conversations and happy memories. We are looking forward to seeing friendships blossom, stories exchanged, and smiles brought by a simple envelope arriving in the post.

Here's to keeping the tradition of letter writing alive, one letter at a time. ❤️📬

🧶🍂 A little bit of handmade warmth at Mayflower Court 🍂🧶

September has arrived, the “ber” months are officially here, and there’s definitely a little change in the air… which made the timing of this wonderful donation absolutely perfect. 🤎

We were delighted to receive a bag full of the most beautiful handmade crocheted blankets, very kindly donated to our residents by the lovely people at The Salvation Army in Hedge End.

There is something so special about a handmade blanket — knowing the time, care and love that has gone into every stitch makes them even more precious. 🥰

As the evenings begin to draw in and we start thinking about cosy afternoons, warm drinks and snuggling up, we know these gorgeous blankets are going to be very much loved and appreciated by our residents.

A huge thank you to everyone at The Salvation Army for thinking of us and for such a thoughtful and generous gift. 💕

We think we’re officially ready for cosy season at Mayflower! 🍁🫖🧶

Last Friday, residents and staff gathered to say a fond farewell to Candice as she left Mayflower to begin an exciting new chapter as Home Manager at Dawson Lodge.

A huge thank you to Original Jukebox Memory Activities for providing another wonderful afternoon of entertainment. As always, it was absolutely fabulous, bringing so much joy and laughter to everyone. It was lovely to see residents toe-tapping, singing along, smiling, and even getting up to dance. Your sessions create such a warm and engaging atmosphere, and we truly appreciate the happiness you bring to our home. Thank you once again for a fantastic afternoon.

We spent the afternoon sharing stories, laughing, dancing, and reflecting on the many happy memories created during her time with us. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Candice's dedication, kindness, and the positive impact she has had on the lives of our residents, families, and colleagues.

While we are sad to see her go, we are incredibly proud of her achievement and wish her every success in her new role. From everyone at Mayflower, thank you, Candice, and best of luck for the future!
