Students welcome refugees, does the university?

The University of Stirling is currently offering scholarships to asylum seekers living in the U.K.

Currently prospective students are being offered a fee waiver and £900/£1000 (undergraduate/postgraduate) worth of in-kind support, this means they would be given money for books, transport, stationary, supplies etc.

However this is insufficient for various reasons:
- students are being given no offer of accommodation (the uni expects them to commute from Glasgow as this is their dispersal area.
- if commuting then the money given will barely cover transport costs, meaning the student will not have money for books or anything else on the course.

Today was the final day of strike action by our university staff.

Later on there will be a discussion with lecturers about why it’s important to get involved and support our staff. Link below.
