Etymology
Turnhurst means "estate on the wooded hill", (from Old English, tun means "enclosure, farm or estate" and hurst means "wooded hill")

At the southern edge of Packmoor there is Brindley's Lock public house, close to the previous site of Turnhurst Hall. Turnhurst Hall was a substantial house which stood in an area of what is now Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, between Great Chell and the hamlet of Newchapel in Newcastle-under-Lyme. The road linking the two settlements is now known as Turnhurst Road and the area where the former estate was located is now known as Turnhurst. The most famous resident was canal pioneer James Brindley who is said to have perfected models of his canal locks in the grounds of the house. The estate was originally used for farming, but was later mined for coal and iron ore. To the northern edge there is Newchapel.

🚛 HUGE 508-TONNE ABNORMAL LOAD TO TRAVEL THROUGH STAFFORDSHIRE ON SATURDAY!

Drivers are being warned of possible delays on Saturday, 24 October 2026, as an enormous abnormal load travels north from Stafford.

📏 Length: 96 metres
↔️ Width: 5.8 metres
⚖️ Weight: 508 tonnes

📍 Planned route: Stafford → A34 → Stone → Hanford → Newcastle-under-Lyme → Congleton.

🕗 The convoy typically departs between 8am and 9am, following final vehicle checks.

⚠️ Traffic may be temporarily held at junctions and roundabouts to allow the huge load to pass.

🚗 Plan ahead, allow extra time and consider alternative routes if travelling through the area.

This is exactly what we need to see more of 👏

Blaby Police just did what every force's media team should be doing daily: explaining the law calmly, backing their officers fully, and shutting down the keyboard warriors before they even get going.

Rider on an illegal e-bike gets stopped, the internet immediately decides they know better than the officer who was actually there. Blaby's response? No apology, no hedging, just facts. Don't ride illegal e-bikes dangerously. If an officer tells you to stop, stop. If you're old enough to ride one on the road, you're old enough to be held accountable.

More forces need to be doing this. When officers act lawfully, comms teams should be standing up for them publicly, not leaving them to get dragged through the comments while nobody official says a word.

Credit where it's due, Blaby Police. This is the standard.
