** Spiggie Hide is currently locked **
There's an issue with the door latch to the hide at Spiggie (It doesn't like the wind!) so it's currently locked. We're hoping to get it sorted and re-open tomorrow (Friday) morning.

Woodland Explorers in the October Holidays 2026 was in Michaelswood this morning for our first spooky session! Thank you to Ray and Betty Ferrie for hosting us!

We had 170 people join us for the Neepy Nature Trail to detect bats, create a woodland potion, make bark rubbings, tune in to our senses, craft some pipecleaner spiders and learn about nature!

RSPB Shetland Woodland Explorer sessions are designed for families to connect with each other whilst connecting with nature.

Our next session is on Thursday 22nd October from 10am -12pm in Voxter trees, where we will have a creepy crawly hunt, nature truth-or-dare and more creepy crafts! 🕷️

13/10/2026

Come along to Islesburgh Community Centre in Lerwick between 6.30-8.30pm this evening for a chat about nature-friendly crofting and meet visiting partners from Scottish Crofting Federation, Nature Friendly Farming Network and Pasture for Life.

We are into the last few days to enter RSPB's WildArt Competition 2026! 🎨

Closing date is midnight on 30th September 2026.

WildArt Competition 2026 is open to under 19s to create a piece of art inspired by nature! This piece was inspired by the caddisfly larvae on our Peatland Explorer sessions in Shetland!

A photo of the artwork should be emailed to [email protected] with the heading ‘WildArt 2026 Competition’, and tell us the name and age of the artist.

Not only will the winning artwork be featured in our youth publications and other RSPB communications, the winners will also receive an RSPB prize bundle too!
