She’s here, Flying Scotsman has arrived at Swanage Railway!

And what a wonderful welcome she received!

Our beautiful T3 No. 563 was there to greet the world’s most famous steam locomotive as she made her return to Swanage.

Two magnificent locomotives, generations of railway history and a rather special moment for everyone at Swanage Railway.

Flying Scotsman will now be tucked away until Friday, when the excitement really begins!

Tickets are selling fast, so if you haven’t booked your place yet, don’t leave it too late! We’d love you to join us for what promises to be a fantastic few days.

The world-famous Flying Scotsman is coming to Swanage Railway!

From 23 October to 1 November, one of the most iconic steam locomotives in the world will be visiting Dorset as part of Swanage Railway's 50th anniversary celebrations.

Whether you're a lifelong railway enthusiast or looking for a memorable family day out this October half term, this is a rare opportunity to experience a true piece of railway history.

A little Flying Scotsman update!

Some of our eagle-eyed friends might have noticed that Flying Scotsman is taking a little longer than expected to make its way to Swanage!

The world's most famous steam locomotive has been delayed on its journey to us and is now expected to arrive tomorrow, Wednesday 21 October.

Once it arrives, we'll be tucking it safely away until Friday, when the fun really begins!

We're still very much looking forward to welcoming this railway icon to Purbeck for its much-anticipated visit, starting on Friday 23 October.

After all, even a legend like Flying Scotsman can run a little late!

A special day for Eddystone and the Swanage Railway!

Saturday 17 October was another fantastic milestone for 34028 Eddystone, as the locomotive hauled the Railway Touring Company’s Bournemouth Belle railtour from London Waterloo to Swanage.

It was a particularly special occasion, marking Eddystone’s first visit to London Waterloo in preservation, bringing the sight and sound of a rebuilt Bulleid Pacific back to one of the Southern Railway’s most famous stations.

Travelling via Woking, Basingstoke, Wi******er, Southampton and Bournemouth, Eddystone made its way home towards the Isle of Purbeck.

For us at the Swanage Railway, it was wonderful to see Eddystone which such strong connections to our railway making history on the national network. Even more special was the involvement of our own Swanage Railway crew, who played their part in this historic occasion.

It’s easy to admire the locomotive, but behind every journey like this are people with incredible skills, knowledge and dedication. We’re extremely proud of our crew and the part they played in making the day possible.

This latest achievement is also a real credit to everyone at SLL - Southern Locomotives Ltd, whose hard work and determination have made Eddystone’s return to main line running possible.

A huge well done to everyone involved, including the Railway Touring Company, Southern Locomotives Ltd and, of course, our own staff and volunteers.

A fantastic achievement for Eddystone and a very proud moment for the Swanage Railway!
