Independent Monitoring Authority public service We protect the rights of EU and EEA EFTA citizens (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) in the UK and Gibraltar.

We do this by monitoring UK public bodies to make sure they implement the rights of these citizens and by identifying any underlying issues. We are independent of government and will be both professional and impartial in our work.

Travelling to and returning to the UK can feel complicated, particularly if you hold settled status, pre-settled status, a Certificate of Application (CoA), an EUSS family permit, or are waiting for a decision on your EU Settlement Scheme Administration or appeal.

Our travel page explains your right to travel to the UK, how to prove your immigration status, which travel documents you can use at the border, and what to do if you experience issues with a carrier (your airline, train, or ferry operator), Border Force or eGates. Whether you need to show a share code, update your UKVI account, use a national identity card, or prove your eligibility to travel, this page brings together the latest guidance and resources.
