✅ When was your last eye test?
Many eyesight conditions develop gradually and without obvious symptoms. That's why regular eye examinations are so important, particularly as we get older.
This week, as part of Operation Insight, we're encouraging all motorists to make one simple commitment:
📅 Book an eye test if you're due one. 👓 Wear the glasses or contact lenses you need for driving. 🚗 Make effective visual checks part of every journey.
A simple eye test could help you spot hazards sooner, make better decisions and protect yourself and others on the road.
Clear vision saves lives.
👀 Can you read a number plate from 20 metres?
Take the time to check your eyesight today.
"You can't react to what you don't see. Check your eyes. Check your surroundings. Drive safely."

🚗🍂 Is this your first autumn driving independently?
Summer driving is one thing.
Autumn brings new challenges:
🌧 Heavy rain 🌫 Misty mornings 🌅 Bright low sun 🍂 Slippery roads 🌙 Longer periods of darkness
Confidence is good.
Overconfidence can be dangerous.
Adapt your speed, leave more space and make sure your vehicle is ready for the season ahead.
The most experienced drivers respect the conditions. New drivers should too.

🚗 Safe driving starts with what you see
Seeing a hazard isn't enough - you need to actively look for it.
As daylight hours reduce and roads become busier during peak travel times, drivers should make effective visual searches part of every journey.
Remember:
👀 Check mirrors regularly.
👀 Look well ahead for developing hazards.
👀 Scan junctions, crossings and side roads.
👀 Watch carefully for pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders.
👀 Take extra care at dawn, dusk and during poor weather.
Regular eye tests can help identify changes in vision before they affect your driving.
Good drivers don't just look - they actively search.
Operation Insight reminds us that clear vision and effective observation are essential skills for every driver, every journey.
"You can't react to what you don't see. Check your eyes. Check your surroundings. Drive safely."

👀 Could your eyesight be putting you and others at risk?
Good vision is one of the most important tools you use when driving. Yet eyesight can change gradually, meaning many drivers may not notice their vision has deteriorated.
Did you know? Drivers must be able to read a vehicle number plate from 20 metres to meet the legal eyesight standard.
As the evenings become darker following the clock change, good eyesight becomes even more important. Spotting pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and hazards early gives you more time to react and stay safe.
✅ Take a moment to ask yourself:
• When was your last eye test?
• Do you always wear your prescribed glasses or contact lenses when driving?
• Can you comfortably read a number plate from 20 metres away?
Operation Insight encourages all drivers to check their eyesight regularly and take responsibility for staying safe on Somerset's roads.

🎃🌧️🍂 Darker Nights Are Here - Adapt Your Driving 🍂🌧️🎃

As the clocks go back this weekend, roads across Somerset will become darker earlier and weather conditions may be more challenging. Add Halloween into the mix, with more children and families out enjoying the festivities, and it's important that everyone takes extra care.

✅ Slow down and drive to the conditions. ✅ Look out for children near roads and crossing points. ✅ Allow extra stopping distance in wet weather. ✅ Wear bright or reflective clothing if you're walking or cycling.

Remember: Safe road use starts with individual choices. A few extra seconds of patience and attention could prevent a serious collision.

Let's make this Halloween memorable for the right reasons.

🌦️ We're all affected by the weather. Let's look out for each other. 🚶🚲🚗🏍️

Stormy conditions and shorter daylight hours mean everyone needs to take extra care.

🚶 Pedestrians - wear something bright or reflective when walking near roads. 🚲 Cyclists - make sure your lights are charged and working. 🏍️ Riders - anticipate slippery surfaces and reduced visibility. 🚗 Drivers - expect longer stopping distances and look twice for vulnerable road users.

As the seasons change, small actions can help prevent serious collisions.

Stay visible. Stay alert. Stay safe.
