🌸🏆🌸 A huge thank you to Sue and Chris who have made this lovely display in their window at 3 Strand, showcasing and celebrating the trophies and certificates recently won by Shaldon and Ringmore at Britain in Bloom 2026 - South West. SPC do not of course have an office building so it is wonderful to be able to publicly show off the awards won by our brilliant village - now officially the Best Large Village in the South West - along with flying our official Gold flag on The Green.
It is also a particularly appropriate location for the display as Sue’s mother, Janet, was Chair of the village Britain in Bloom committee when we last won the Cox Cup almost 35 years ago! 🌸🏆🌸

SHALDON PARISH COUNCIL GRANT APPLICATIONS

Shaldon Parish Council is pleased to announce that it has statutory powers to make funds available to local organisations for the overall benefit of Shaldon and its residents. The grant award policy is designed to provide support to local not-for-profit groups, charitable or volunteer organisations or worthy causes delivering services to the community of Shaldon. A grant is any payment made by the Parish Council to an organisation for a specific purpose that will benefit the Parish, or residents of the Parish and which is not directly controlled or administered by the Parish Council. The size of any grant awarded is at the discretion of the Parish Council.

Grant applications will only be considered if the application form is completed and obtained from the Parish Clerk at [email protected].

The following organisations are eligible to apply:

a. Shaldon based charities, clubs, associations, groups or other organisations whose activities benefit all or some of the Shaldon community.
b. Local branches of regional or national charities, clubs, associations, groups or other organisations whose activities benefit all or some of the Shaldon community.

Applications are considered at Full Council meetings in November and May and the deadline for November applications is 18 November 2026.

Please note that this policy provides an option (not an obligation) to make grants.

Some brilliant news - Shaldon and Ringmore won Gold in the Britain in Bloom - South West Awards today. Our wonderful village also won the Cox Cup for the Best Large Village in the South West and the Vic Verrier Trophy for the Best New Entry in South West in Bloom!
The Friends of Homeyards Botanical Gardens were also awarded Outstanding in the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ class - very very well done to you fantastic volunteers in the beautiful Botanical Gardens!

The judges particularly singled out our village’s amazing community engagement as being a key reason behind our success in the competition, so here’s a huge shout out to all our village community groups and volunteers - this is real validation and recognition of just how brilliant you all are! On the judging route in July the judges met the representatives of the St Nicholas’ Churchyard Group, the Friends of Homeyards Botanical Gardens, Shaldon Zoo, Harry and Jo of the Zoo Food Project, the Allotments, the bowls club, the playpark, rowing, Regatta & Water Carnival representatives, the Bargain Box and Cancer Research Open Gardens volunteers, and many of those wonderful people who plant and maintain the lovely community displays throughout the village. Thank you too to all our village businesses and householders who made such a fantastic effort to showcase our blooming beautiful village!
Boyces and Barton Landscapes also deserve special mention for all their hard work in our village.

The Britain in Bloom - South West Gold Flag will fly high over The Green in Shaldon from this weekend - hurrah!!! 🥳

Shaldon Parish Council (SPC) will be doing an official check of Shaldon Beach this month. Please ensure that anything that is not stored there under licence from SPC is removed immediately. Anything left there and found during our check will be subject to enforcement procedures to ensure its removal. Many thanks

At the constructive public meeting held on 10th September 2026 to discuss the future of Shaldon's public toilet provision, many local residents gave Shaldon Parish Councillors their feedback on the future of our 2 public toilet blocks. Additional written feedback was invited from the village and this was reviewed by Parish Councillors before the extraordinary Full Council Meeting held on 8th October to decide whether SPC would take on responsibility for the toilets from Teignbridge District Council. SPC have been forced to consider taking this responsibility on because from April 2027 Teignbridge will no longer support any public toilet provision. At the meeting on 8th October, SPC decided to take on responsibility for both the Strand and the Ness toilet blocks, while also seeking financial contributions from Teignbridge towards the future running costs of the Ness toilets as this block primarily serves the Ness car parks, Shaldon Zoo, Shaldon Approach Golf Course and the Ness beach – all of which are run by, or are tenants of, Teignbridge District Council.

Initially Shaldon Parish Council will finance the remainder of the running costs of both toilet blocks by an increase in the precept, the portion of council tax paid to the Parish Council. This is because we will take over the running of the toilet blocks at the start of the summer season in 2027 and so will not be able to close the toilets to refurbish them, and, if it is considered appropriate, to install a pay-for-use system, until at least the winter of 2026/27. In view of the feedback received from our residents, the Parish Council will also be urgently considering how best to fund this much – needed refurbishment program. Options to be considered will include a crowdfunding initiative, grant applications, voluntary donations to use the toilets and business sponsorship.
