Licence no.MBCAL/049/23 We are a provider of fully licensed and insured educational and therapeutic animal interaction services for children and adults. We provide a safe and loving family home environment for animals that we have actively rescued ourselves or that members of the public have rehomed with us, and our fees fund the animals' care. We concentrate purely on providing an educational and therapeutic experience and the perfect environment for the animals to live in. We strive to present ourselves and the animals with dignity and respect and provide a joyous and uplifting experience. The animals live as part of our family in a suitable, spacious, rural environment. I'm a full time mum as well full time animal carer, with 14 years experience working with children and young people, with a background in pre-school activity leading and youth work. I have previous experience as an animal rescuer for a wildlife charity. We are fully insured and licenced to provide animal encounters with a 5 star premises rating. We take on animals in need of re-homing on case by case basis or refer enquiries to a suitable professional rescue where we cannot adopt them personally. We do not breed or sell animals. Please call 01892 730883 email [email protected] for more details about any of our services during normal office hours 8am-5pm Mon-Sat.

Due to storm Austen we decided not to run any encounters today, but it wasn’t a complete wash out - it’s Spud’s birthday so he had a tasty slap up birthday lunch, followed by presents and an afternoon tea with the girls, and they are all snuggled up in the warm all cosy now. Ember doesn’t like wind so he’s decided to stay in bed tucked up out of the way, which was probably for the best - when Snowy and Ember get together things are quite lively - and noisy! While Spud is very hard of hearing, Snowy’s vocalisations usually break through and give him a startle, since the rest of his world is very quiet. Over the last year this has caused him to have “little turns” which while very brief, we would prefer to avoid on his special day

Did you know? The "October Crazies" is the term used by fox keepers, rescues, and biologists to describe an intense seasonal shift in a fox's behavior that typically strikes during autumn. Foxes might act moody, confrontational, antagonistic, paranoid, nervous - or just go wild with Zoomies, digging and “destructive” behaviour.
In the wild, autumn is the time when 6-month-old fox cubs naturally pack up and leave the family den to find their own territories, and this hormonal shift helps break up the family unit, encourages youngsters to go it alone, and gives mum a chance to rest and recover alone before the next breeding season.
It’s most noticeable in juvenile foxes like Ember, because they are going through the hormonal phase and fox puberty all at once, but all foxes are affected to a certain extent.
Ember has been displaying his October crazies mostly through boundary pushing, Zoomies and digging but sometimes he is also a little jumpy and on edge, but over the course of autumn and winter this should all settle back down again and he’ll soon feel back to his usual self.

Today is National “definitely not a smokescreen for unaliving those pesky wild orange dogs on horseback” Day. And that made me think about sharing a bit of trivia about some of the history of my home. In the early 1900s, when our cottage was still part of a local farm, it was used during that particular part of the year when certain types of people like to dress up and harass wildlife, as a place to stop, warm up, have a bite to eat and a stiff drink or two before going on their merry way. And I have filled it and surrounded it with foxes! I like to think somehow we have taken something back for wildlife and righted a wrong 🦊 #𝓢𝓸𝓻𝓻𝔂𝓝𝓸𝓽𝓢𝓸𝓻𝓻𝔂

Honouring, celebrating and creating traditions is a big part of life together for our family and including the animal members is an important element. In a nod to some Austrian heritage - and to make some sausage based enrichment for our canids, I present to you some snaps from our “Dogtoberfest”, several days of mayhem in the form of sausage treasure hunts, dog b**r, squeaky pretzel toys and trachten in the autumn sunshine - “Prost!” Woof&Brew Ltd

Happy client Heather left the following 5* Google review: "My daughter had requested a fox and skunk experience for her birthday and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It was magical. The sanctuary was easy to find and larger than I had imagined.
Maria is very careful to ensure good hygiene throughout and the animals are obviously very well cared for. We spent time feeding and interacting with Squeak the skunk and then went on to spend time with Ember the fox. Maria was extremely knowledgeable and taught us so much about skunk and fox behaviour and care. She went out of her way to encourage Ember to interact with us so that we had the best experience. We would all highly recommend Amazing Animal Encounters"

A frequently asked question we get is “do you have public liability insurance?” Yes! It’s a legal requirement in the UK when providing activities and interactions with animals to have specialist insurance. What we never get asked is “are you licensed to provide animal encounters” or “are you a licensed animal establishment” - if you aren’t, and you don’t have a zoo license instead, then your public liability insurance would be null and void anyway. Since 2018 it’s been a legal requirement to be a licensed establishment (or a licensed zoo) if you are providing any kind of interaction, activity or attraction with animals involved on a regular basis for a fee. We were actually a stakeholder advisor during the creation of this welfare act that the establishment license regulations came out of. When the Animal Welfare Act 2018 was brought into force, everyone had to apply retrospectively, but now, you can’t operate any kind of activity without having gained permission first from your local council which involves a fee and inspections from licensing officers, welfare officers and depending on the animals involved, a vet. This is an on going regular process that you have to participate in. I see people offering activities and attractions with animals everyday with no licensing in place. We all have to display our licence details on our social media, website and premises - so it just takes a second to check out - and it can be verified through the council local to that area if need be. This licensing system is there to protect the animals and the service user - and it’s the law.

Our sessions have been inspiring and educating the next generations of animal lovers for fifteen years and we have provided age appropriate encounters and workshops for toddlers to teens. Fox encounter visitor Charlotte said “Honestly the girls were so excited and now Paige is thinking about her choices for GCSEs and considering a career in animals”

When Luna the lionhead rabbit was discovered lost and alone in the wild, her rescuer Sarah had no idea the little pet bunny had crossed paths with a native rabbit and had fallen pregnant. These half domestic, half wild rabbit babies are now growing up safely in our care where they can express natural behaviours and live out their lives without pressure to interact with humans. While they cannot be released as they are not true wild rabbits, their instincts are most definitely still hard wired within them. Our sessions fund the care of animals like these, but you can also help by sending a gift from our wishlist, link in the comments.
