This is a page to promote the work done by Tamar Coastguard to show people what we do and who we are.

We deal with Maritime and Coastal emergencies however, due to specialising in Search and Rescue (SAR) we also respond to inland emergencies also.

Stuck in the mud? 🥾

Mud can quickly become dangerous, especially near open water and when the tide is rising.

Check local warnings signs before setting off and avoid walking across muddy areas, as hidden channels of fast-flowing water can be difficult to spot.

If you become stuck:

• Sit back and spread your weight evenly across the surface

• Tell others not to attempt a rescue, as they could become stuck too

• Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Working Alongside Plymouth RNLI to recover 2 persons onboard a broken down vessel. Teams were initially tasked to reports of a person in distress in the water.

Vessel recovered, persons welfare checked and safety advice given.

Tasked along side Police & EOD Team to Ordnance found on coastline.

Always be mindful of objects you may discover on our beaches.

Our shores are filled with history, but remnants from the past can still sometimes wash up on our shores today.

If you find something on the beach that’s an unusual size or shape, especially if it’s rusty, it could be an unexploded ordnance.

While it is very rare to find unexploded ordnance on a visit to the beach, bad weather and high tides can expose these objects. It’s important to be cautious, as ordnance comes in all shapes and sizes.

If you do come across something on the beach that you’re unsure of or suspect could be unexploded ordnance, please don’t touch it or move it. Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard - we will take immediate steps with the relevant partner authorities to keep people safe and ensure the item in question is disposed of correctly.

LOCATION: Rame Head, Whitsand Bay, Cornwall

Overdue Sailor in Dark conditions.

Tamar Team, along with our flank team Looe Coastguard & rescue 924 🚁were tasked to carry out a shoreline search for an over due sailor with limited communications, Plymouth & Looe Rnli all weather & inshore life boats were also tasked to carry out searches in and around Whitsand bay & Cawsand.

After a shoreline search was carried out in Cawsand Bay by Tamar team, the vessel and owner were located safe and well, the welfare of the sailor was checked and all teams stood down.

This goes to show just how well Search & Rescue techniques work, from the start of this shout Falmouth CG were plotting tide & wind movements to establish where the vessel could have possibly drifted to, whilst the shore team were planning areas to search and sending teams to these locations.

A positive outcome for what potentially could have been a lot worse in the situation.

Team training evening, Tamar team were out on the coast, this time at Portwrinkle beach, practicing water rescue techniques, we always try and keep our water rescue skills sharp to ensure a rapid response.

Tamar Team were tasked to assist our flank team to set up and maintain a helicopter landing site on plymouth hoe, this was to enable the recovery of a casualty to be taken directly to hospital by air.
