Elba Park Elba Park is an attractive 52 hectare country park, located on the site of the former coking works; Lambton Colliery, which ceased in the 1980s

The park was created on the site of the former Lambton Colliery and Cokeworks. The cokeworks closed in the mid-eighties and the site lay derelict. The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has invested £25m in reclaiming the heavily contaminated site, creating a 52-hectare country park featuring new footpaths and a stunning range of community artworks. The Land Trust now has overall responsibility of Elba Park, with Groundwork North East managing the park on a daily basis.

Our car park off Chester Road will be closed from Monday 14th September to allow for the Northumbrian Water pipeline works. Please use our other car park off Blind Lane in the meantime. The area marked in orange on the map will be fenced off during this time for the safety of both park users and contractors, but alternative routes round the park are still available. Please bear with us whilst these essential works are carried out and take extra care in the park as vehicles and machinery will be on site throughout.

🌿 Important Notice 🌿

As we head into Summer, we’d like to remind visitors that swimming is NOT permitted at any of our sites and to take precautions to prevent fires, helping us protect both people and the natural environment.

During dry conditions, our green spaces and wildlife are more vulnerable, so we kindly ask everyone to take extra care when visiting:
❌ Please don’t enter the water
❌ Do not use BBQs
❌ Do not light bonfires or campfires
🔥 Report any signs of fire by calling 999

These actions help safeguard local habitats, protect wildlife, and keep our spaces safe for everyone to enjoy. The wellbeing of our visitors and the natural environment is always our priority, so please plan ahead and take care during hot weather.

For weather updates, visit the Met Office website.
