Good news for Sunderland residents in today’s budget!

28/10/2026

I don’t often speak about this publicly, but I grew up experiencing domestic violence.

My mam and I were fortunate that we didn’t have to flee our home. Many families are not.

That’s why I’m so concerned that the Reform council have blocked funding for new domestic abuse accommodation out of this year’s budget.

For families escaping abuse, this isn’t just a line on a spreadsheet.

A safe place to go can mean everything.

🚨NEWS: Reform taking credit for Labour's work again 🥱

The extra hour of free parking in Sunderland city centre was approved by Labour's Cabinet in March 2026, before the local elections, with plans to introduce it in the new financial year.

We welcome its introduction, but to be clear, this was already agreed under Labour.

Labour made the decision. Reform are taking the credit.

Sunderland residents deserve the facts.

Blocked drain/flooding outside The Salvation Army:

I have reported this to the council, the localised flooding seems to be down to a blocked drain. Hopefully it gets unblocked soon!

ROKER PACT MEETING: 11 DECEMBER

You may not be aware that the next Roker Police and Communities Together meeting is taking place on Friday 11th December at Redby Community Centre at 6:15pm.

With everything happening around Roker Avenue; drugs, anti-social behaviour and the recent cannabis farm discovery at the Wheatsheaf I’d encourage residents to come along, get updated and make their voices heard.

And while PACT meetings are welcome, one meeting every few months isn’t enough for the whole of Roker, never mind the persistent problems on Roker Avenue.

Please share so more people know the meeting is happening.

Another update from Tom, who is out in all weathers making sure residents’ issues are being heard and addressed.

Stay safe everyone with the yellow weather warning that is in place ⛈️

Roker Ave update 👇

There's real issues facing residents on Roker Avenue. Antisocial behaviour, fly tipping and much more serious crime.

I'm pleased to have been informed that this morning a 360 degree CCTV camera has been wired in beside the The Fort pub. This will be crucial in gathering evidence of crimes and deterring crimes from taking place.

This is just one step of many needed to make the Avenue the place it should be. I'll be updating you all at the weekend with more ❤️
