I’m always incredibly grateful to be invited to events, training and new opportunities… but goodness, I miss the open space, the fresh air and, most importantly, my little besties! 🐏💚

Apparently, my natural habitat involves muddy boots and animals with absolutely no understanding of personal space. 😂

Leo has waved me off at 5am for the past two mornings, in the dark, while I’ve asked him to behave and keep an eye on everyone.

Quite a responsibility for someone whose main qualification is looking handsome and demanding chin scratches. 🤣

This morning, we finally caught up on our snuggles and scratches. Normal service restored. 🥰

Still no baby alpacas, though. Clearly, they haven’t read the schedule. 🤦‍♀️🦙

It’s moments like this that shows those children that have been let down and failed by the system, I’m on the same level as them trust me, I will go to the ends of the earth to support you and advocate for you and we will have fun and bring joy back into your world.

Those steps matter not just to the children but the parents too!!!

Alongside our learning sessions, we offer parent support calls and advocacy to help you organise your concerns, prepare questions and communicate what your child needs.

I bring my professional experience to this work, alongside the lived understanding of being a SEND parent myself. You do not have to arrive with everything neatly explained. We can start with where you are.

If you need support for your child, yourself or both, comment …. LETS TALK
Tell us what feels hardest at the moment, and we can talk through which of our services may help, current availability and any costs or funded options.

You do not need to wait until you have nothing left before asking.

TUESDAY TRUTH… STRAIGHT FROM THE DONKEY’S MOUTH.

“You can’t stand there with a long face expecting things to change.”

Thank you, Eli. Very motivational from someone who considers an empty hay net a formal grievance. 🙄😂

But underneath the donkey wisdom is something serious.

Too many SEND families are stuck chasing support while hearing:

“There’s no funding.”
“There aren’t any specialist places.”
“The waiting list is very long.”

Apparently, even longer than Acorns ears. Quite an achievement.

Meanwhile, a child is missing education, confidence is slipping and a parent is trying to hold everything together.

Funding pressures are real. So are children’s rights.
Being on a school roll doesn’t, by itself, mean a child is receiving an education they can access.

Depending on the child’s circumstances, suitable arrangements could include tuition or alternative provision. Schools also have duties to make reasonable adjustments for disabled pupils.

And an EHCP is a legal document. The special educational provision in Section F must be secured by the council, subject to the legal exception where suitable alternative arrangements have been made.

“Funding is difficult” is not a magic phrase that makes that duty disappear. 🪄

Another important truth: DLA is not means-tested. Eligible children can receive it regardless of their parents’ income or savings. It helps with disability-related costs; receiving it does not make you responsible for replacing education the council has a duty to arrange.

So, take someone supportive to the meeting. Keep a written record. Ask:

👉 What provision will my child receive?
👉 Who is responsible for arranging it?
👉 When will it start?
👉 What happens while we wait?

You can be polite, professional and persistent. You can also ask for help when you’ve run out of energy.

Because let’s be clear: an exhausted parent is not the reason the system hasn’t delivered.

we see what can happen when children have an environment, relationships and an approach that help them feel safe enough to engage. A child struggling to access school can still be curious, capable and ready to learn with the right support around them.

Tomorrow I’m meant to be going to an event. At this rate, I’ll be borrowing Acorn’s Halloween costume.

Yes, the donkey’s ghost sheet. At least we know it fits over a decent-sized bum. 🤣👻 and can hide my untamed hair.

I’ve now taken more than 20 outfits out of my wardrobe and decided I don’t like a single one. Long boots or short boots? Jumper or cardigan? Big coat or little coat? Seriously, can I just go in my farm hoodie, trousers and wellies? I need to reduce the overwhelm 🤣

Honestly, the overwhelm of choosing an outfit is ridiculous. I have a beautiful collection of Scamp & Dude™ dresses, but two-thirds are too big, and apparently none of my tops fit quite right with my trousers.

So now I have a wardrobe on the bed, absolutely nothing to wear and a donkey who is, quite frankly, better prepared for a public appearance than I am.

Acorn, leave the sheet out. You might be lending it to me in the morning!! Three days past Halloween is perfectly acceptable to dress as a ghost, right 🤣

Just a Sunday photo dump of today, because tonight I’m tired.

Eventing made me sleepy, today was a lot of farm jobs and a lot of Keeley being clumsy and having accidents….. I’m all good although Geronimo turning into a total bedtime diva, wasn’t on the cards - honestly the sheer sass of that goat. 🐐

But everyone got pumpkins (that could have them) FYI do not show acorn a pumpkin unless you have your running shoes on, he’s obsessed 🤦‍♀️

A little taste of the farm today… pumpkins, happy faces and a bucket of slop over my head. Standard. 🎃😂

Happy Halloween from all of us at The Farming Mother!

Geronimo was delighted to take charge of meet and greet, ticking off his fan club as they arrived. Modesty remains a work in progress. 🐐📋

Meanwhile, the alpacas decided Halloween babies were firmly OFF today’s itinerary. Apparently, they hadn’t approved the event schedule. 🦙🤦‍♀️

A huge thank you to all our volunteers and helpers. These events happen because people give their time, energy and enthusiasm, and we’re so grateful. A special shout-out to Louis and Anthony for helping decorate the farm, which looked absolutely epic… even if I do say so myself! 🕸️🎃

There was plenty of fun, laughter and memory-making — including the teens giving me a spectacular dunking. Because if you’re asking everyone else to be good sports, you’ve got to be prepared to sit down and take the slop over the head yourself. 😂🪣

Was it dignified? Absolutely not.
Did they enjoy it? Far too much.

Videos to follow… unfortunately for me. 👀🤣

Apparently, my commitment to making memories now involves plaster of Paris at 6am. Before coffee. Send help. 🤦‍♀️🎃

Is it dedication to the cause?
Is it my neurodivergent brain overthinking every little detail?
Is it the perfectionist in me whispering, “Do you know what this event needs? Just one more thing…”?

Probably a fairly spectacular combination of all three. 😂

So there I was this morning, making plaster of Paris moulds for the children to paint at our Halloween event. Because obviously, pumpkins, treats, animals and all the other preparations weren’t quite enough.

They needed a little keepsake. Something they could take home, look at and say, “I made that when we went to the farm.”

And that’s the bit that matters to me.

So many SEND children miss out on experiences other families take for granted. Often unintentionally, because the noise, crowds, expectations or lack of flexibility make joining in too difficult.

Behind that missed event is a child who deserved the fun, too. And a parent who would have loved to come home with happy memories.

As a SEND mum, I know how much it means to find somewhere your family can relax. Where your child can take their time, join in their own way and feel welcome being themselves.

That’s what I pour my heart into creating here.

Whether a family attends through a free place, makes a donation or buys a ticket, the care and thought going into their experience are the same.

Every family deserves to feel that we’re excited they’re coming. Every child deserves those little moments of magic.

Will anyone know how early I got up to make them? Probably not. (Well you do now 🤣)

Will someone paint theirs seventeen colours until it’s a suspicious shade of brown? Almost certainly. And I will admire it with the enthusiasm it deserves. 😂🎨

Because that little painted pumpkin might become a reminder of a day they felt happy, included and able to be themselves.

And yes… that’s worth getting up for.

Farmer Keeley: powered by coffee, big feelings and an apparently unlimited ability to create extra jobs for herself. ☕🎃🐐
