Councillor William Noble - Moor View Ward Councillor William Noble, Moor View Ward (Estover Leigham Mainstone Thornbury Glenholt Palmerston) What type of support does our community need?

🚨Tremendous news for Plymouth in today’s budget🚨

🗣Cllr Tudor Evans said: '94% of households in the city will have £100 paid into their bank account to help with energy bills. It's very positive news to hear the Chancellor delivering immediate help with household expenses for Plymouth families. Around 109,540 Plymouth households in Council Tax Bands A to D (close to 94%) will receive a £100 payment, putting almost £11m directly into the pockets of Plymouth residents. Gas standing charges have also been scrapped.
It was also very pleasing to hear Plymouth mentioned twice in the Chancellor's Budget speech, and for good reason.
Our city is being recognised as a place of opportunity, investment and growth.
Alongside support for local families, this is a major vote of confidence in Plymouth's future. The Budget includes £3m to support defence jobs and skills opportunities for young people, helping the next generation access high-quality careers in one of our city's most important sectors.
This is a Budget which backs Plymouth - supporting working families today while investing in the jobs, skills and opportunities of tomorrow.
The Labour government is delivering real help for families and real investment in Plymouth. This is a Budget that delivers for our city.'

🏊What Links Tinside Lido - Plymouth Active 🏊and 🛣️Miller Way🛣️ the longest road in my ward?

On Sunday I boarded the Black History Bus at the Theatre Royal where Rachel Hawadi presented a talk "Bill Miller’s Story: How the Descendant of a Slave and Son of an Immigrant from Sierra Leone Led the Rebuilding of Plymouth After World War II". Rachel who works for the council discovered Bill's Story.

Born in 1890 to a father from Sierra Leone, Alderman Bill Miller had a distinguished career as an electrical engineer at the Plymouth Dockyard. Following the First World War, he entered politics and earned a reputation as the "working man's lawyer." During the 1930s, Miller served as the councillor spearheading the development of the Tinside Lido—a project so closely tied to his leadership that it was affectionately known as "Miller's Lido."

In the aftermath of World War II, recognizing the city's urgent housing shortage, he championed the reconstruction of Plymouth and led the push to build new estates in areas like Pennycross and Ham. Following his death in 1970, his immense contribution to the city's post-war housing was honored by naming a newly laid-out road in Estover in his memory : Miller Way.
