Tim previously served at Westlea Fire Station for 4 years up until the end of 2025. We know he would appreciate your support to help him raise lots of money for this great cause!

🔥🏃‍♂️ Station Charity Challenge 🏃‍♂️🔥

Crew Manager Timothy Burns will be taking on an incredible challenge on 13 June 2026, running 70 miles (113km) across Hadrian’s Wall — a race known as The Wall.

He will be running alongside his wife and brother in memory of their Mum, who sadly passed away from cancer in November 2025, raising vital funds for 'Children with Cancer UK' which was her chosen charity. ❤️

If you’re able to support this challenge, donations and shares would be hugely appreciated.

A few weeks ago “Jane” our station cleaner asked for help to mend her bike. FF Martin noted that it was quite old and in a poor state of repair. With this in mind and knowing how hard Jane works keeping our station sparkling, he organised for all the Watches to chip in for an early Christmas present and purchase a new bike for our favourite member of the team at Stratton. Happy Christmas Jane, from all of us.

We have a very important update to share regarding our 2025 Christmas collection.🎅🏼

Please find below a letter we received today from Santa.

We know how much our Christmas visits mean to our local community — it’s one of our favourite times of the year too! We’re truly grateful for all the incredible support you’ve shown us over the years.

If you’d still like to support the charity, you can do so by donating directly to The Fire Fighters Charity via their website. Every penny goes towards helping firefighters and their families when they need it most.

Thank you once again for your kindness and continued support.

Take care and stay safe,
Westlea Fire Station 🚒

On behalf of all on Group 1 and Group 2 past and present across decades of service to the community, it has been an honour.

No more Group 1 or Group 2, from now it will be Green, Red, Blue or White Watch looking after you.

These changes will mean many new faces and a lot less of the familiar ones at Westlea, but nonetheless the service to the community and wider area must come first.

Thank you to everyone who has visited open days, santa collections and various other momentous occasions across Westlea’s amazing history.

Keep an eye out for how these events will be affected moving forward.

Today is a big day for us, as we now have all three of our fire stations in Swindon crewed 24/7.

Westlea Fire Station has always been crewed by wholetime firefighters, on station during the day and responding to a pager from home at night.

Due to the growth of Swindon as a town, it was decided to develop Westlea into a shift station, an investment that means more firefighters and a presence on station all day, every day.

This move matches the shift pattern at both Swindon Fire Station (Drove Road) and Stratton St Margaret Fire Station fire stations, and improves our emergency response to the local community.

We are hugely grateful to all the firefighters based in the Swindon area, who have supported this project with great professionalism.

Our colleagues are still at the incident at Groundwell Industrial Estate and we’re aware of some concern due to the potential of asbestos. We want to reassure the public that we believe this to be low risk, and precautions have been taken to avoid further spread of smoke and debris.

Firefighters are working hard to extinguish the fire, and we currently have one crew and an aerial ladder platform in attendance from Mere and Swindon.

If you suffer from any respiratory conditions, we advise you to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area. As a precautionary measure, residents should not touch any debris that has fallen onto their private property or surrounding land and report this to Swindon Borough Council on 01793 445500.
