here is what just a few of the nominators said

From P

It is my pleasure to nominate this burial ground for the National Burial Ground of the Year Award.
As a funeral celebrant, I have had the privilege of conducting several services within the grounds, and every experience has reinforced just how special this place is. The setting itself is beautifully maintained, peaceful and tranquil, providing families with a calm and comforting environment in which to say their final goodbye.
What truly sets this team apart is their compassion and professionalism. They are never rushed during a graveside service, always allowing families the time and space they need. They are approachable, kind, down to earth and an absolute pleasure to work alongside, creating a genuine sense of teamwork between everyone involved in supporting bereaved families.
I have witnessed the thoughtful ways they personalise each funeral, whether through the use of beautifully crafted willow coffins, traditional coffins, shrouds, alternative funeral transport, military drapes and honours, buglers, pipers, or by encouraging families to write personal farewell messages directly onto the coffin. These small but meaningful touches help create unique and deeply personal farewells.
The practical arrangements are equally impressive, with the provision of pagodas, seating and PA system ensuring every service is conducted with dignity and care. Beyond the funerals themselves, they continue to support families through events such as their annual Candlelight Vigil, offering comfort long after the funeral has taken place. Something, I very much look forward to myself.
Having conducted Several burials at their parks, I can honestly say they consistently go above and beyond for every family they serve. Their commitment to compassion and individuality makes them thoroughly deserving of recognition as the National Burial Ground of the Year.

And these are what just a few of the many customers said

A,

My partner and I wish to nominate Gordon Tulley for Funeral Director of the year. His care and attention to detail for the arrangements prior, during and after the celebration of my partners daughter were impeccable.
Gordon came to our house and advised us on the care of Holly whilst she laid at rest with us. Gordon showed us such great care, sympathy and made us aware of all the legal, religious and practicalities of a “Green” burial.
During the celebration Gordon was very keen to get ourselves involved in Holly’s celebration of life - I even carried out the responsibilities of Celebrant - guided by Gordon with such consideration and compassion : - an absolutely wonderful experience which helped my partner and I to get through a stressful and tiring day.
Every detail that we wanted was arranged beautifully by Gordon and his team - we felt as though we were great friends during out short time together and my partner and I have decided that a “Green” burial conducted by Respect Funeral Service is the way we would like to be cared for at the end of our lives.

Gordon and his team are a credit to his profession and should be recognised with the accolade of “Funeral Director of the Year”.

B,

I would without hesitation nominate Respect Funerals for nomination of Low cost Funeral Provider of the Year.. I checked almost all of the UK not only for low cost funerals but also because of the reputation and reviews I had heard and read about. They quoted me the cost and did not add any extras without my consent. They consistently kept to all they had agreed to and no extra charges were added.

They cared for my late Mum as if she belonged to them. They kept me updated every step of the way even to the time they would arrive at her home to collect her body,
They informed me of the cremation on the day and after about her ashes

I would recommend them to all my family and friends.

Thank you Respect !

C,

Gordon, once again, I'd like to thank you, Alison & your team for the help & support you offered & for the beautiful service on 25th June for my step dad Stuart . Having the little details just so helps me enormously-the picture, the music, the words...it all means a great deal & I appreciated your attention to detail.
Warmest regards, Sally

Plus we had lots more

“Every minute someone leaves this world behind. Age has nothing to do with it.
We are all in "the line" without knowing it.
We never know how many people are before us.
We can not move to the back of the line.
We can not step out of the line.
We can not avoid the line.

So while we wait in line:

Make moments count.
Make priorities.
Make the time.
Make your gifts known.
Make a nobody feel like a somebody.
Make your voice heard.
Make the small things big.
Make someone smile.
Make the change.
Make love.
Make up.
Make peace.
Make sure to tell your people they are loved.
Make sure to have no regrets.
Make sure you are ready…”

From the start of the pandemic our company Respect Direct Funeral Services were contracted to Barnsley Council to take care of those who could not afford a funeral or needed a public health funeral and we looked after many souls lost due to covid plus our team never failed once to turn out 24hr every day 7 days per week to help our customers when and wherever covid struck.
Sadly we now constantly have souls with covid in our care
Indeed we have a friend being laid to rest this week and sadly friends have lost both young and older family members this and last week.
Take great care and stay safe.

The Barnsley artwork pays tribute to those who have died and recognises unsung pandemic heroes.
