Sarloc Rescue SARLOC is a system developed by the innovation and hard work of Russ H**e, a former Mountain Rescue team member in the UK.

It is used by SAR teams worldwide to assist locating lost people. It has set the standard for many to follow. It is used by SAR teams worldwide to assist locating lost people using their 'smart phones'. The system requires an internet enabled smart 'phone and suitable web browser. Nothing needs to be installed on the lost persons 'phone for the system to work. Many clones have been made, some even giving credit to SARLOC.

🚨CALLOUT🚨Clougha Pike, Wednesday 6th May
At 23:29, just after returning home from our monthly kit maintenance night, we were called by Lancashire Police to help a group who were lost on Clougha Pike. Using technology we pinpointed their location, in a marshy area below the summit. Team members headed up the fell and soon located 2 males who were cold but otherwise uninjured. After providing them with warm jackets and headtorches, we walked them safely back down to their vehicle.

Thank you to the local gamekeeper for his offer of assistance.

A few years ago I released SAREyes-On for testing within MREW. Two people offered to test it :( both downloaded it and the first one then stopped responding to emails.
So I shelved further development at the time.
Due to renewed interest from outside of MREW I may resurrect it.
It uses AR to overlay data on the camera scene and could include SARLOC Technology hits, important landmarks, GPS Enabled radios etc.
The markers show the ID, distance to it and relative height to the user i.e. -5m means the item is 5m below you.
It may not work but if you don't try it, you never know :)

Help Us Raise £150,000 for a New Multi-Purpose Vehicle – In Our 60th Year!

This year marks 60 years of our team serving the hills, valleys and communities of Northumberland. For six decades, your support has helped us respond when people need us most.

To continue delivering the best possible service, we’re fundraising for a new Multi-Purpose Vehicle — a vital addition to our operational capability.

This vehicle will have several key roles, including:

🔹 Control Vehicle – acting as the operational hub during incidents, coordinating search teams, communications and partner agencies.

🔹 Water Operations Vehicle – supporting our specialist water rescue capability.

🔹 Welfare Vehicle – providing a place for volunteers and casualties to rest, regroup and recover during protracted callouts.

🔹 Resilience & Adverse Weather Response – carrying essential equipment and improving mobility during severe weather events.

Our target is ambitious:

🎯 £150,000 by December 2026

Reaching this goal will ensure we have a vehicle that helps us deliver an even better, safer and more coordinated rescue service for everyone who lives in, works in and visits our incredible countryside.

How You Can Help

Donate – every pound gets us closer to our goal.

Get creative with fundraising – bake sales, sponsored walks, quiz nights, workplace challenges, school events or hill challenges… the more imaginative the better!

Share this post – helping spread the word costs nothing but makes a huge difference.

As we celebrate 60 years of voluntary service, we’d love you to be part of the next chapter in our story.

Together, we can reach £150,000 and make sure our team has the tools needed to keep being there when it matters most.

Thank you for your continued support
