Cambusbarron Red Squirrel Group Gillies Hill in Cambusbarron is home to a thriving but vulnerable population of red squirrels. CRSG monitors and safeguards their future.

Cambusbarron Red Squirrel Group (CRSG) is a community organisation formed on behalf of the Cambusbarron Community Council (CCC). Our aims are to enhance and safeguard the red squirrel population on Gillies Hill, Cambusbarron – later extending to further afield. We are working to achieve this through habitat protection and management, additional food provision, and by controlling grey squirrel numbers and the spread of the deadly squirrelpox virus. Regular surveys and camera trapping are carried out to monitor their progress. We will share any updates with you here on our page. We also aim to educate and raise awareness for the red squirrel in general, and the threats that they face. The red squirrel is one of the first species identified as requiring conservation under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan. The UK government has signed up to the Conservation on Biological Diversity which obliges signatory nations to take care of their native wildlife. Without sustained action the red squirrel could become extinct on Gillies Hill.
