Over the last few weeks, we have been incredibly busy at Gillingham fire station during the hot weather. Various fires in the open and heath fires on the command support unit and main appliance, Standbys at Amesbury and Shaftesbury, vehicle fires, RTCs, domestic fires and alarms.
With the hot, dry weather set to continue, the wildfire risk remains in place.
You can help reduce the risk of fires by:
Only having a bonfire if it is absolutely essential. In the current conditions, fires can spread incredibly quickly.
Disposing of rubbish responsibly-never leave glass bottles or litter in the countryside.
Ensuring ci******es and other smoking materials are fully extinguished and disposed of safely.
Never discard lit smoking materials from vehicles.
If you see a fire, dial 999 immediately and ask for the Fire Service. Reporting fires early gives us the best chance of preventing them from spreading and causing significant damage.
Thank you for helping us keep our communities safe. Stay safe, stay vigilant, and enjoy the sunshine responsibly.
