Introducing people to climbing, mountaineering or scrambling is such a privilege that we relish here at Adventure Awaits. I remember fondly the first time I was taken to a climbing wall in Bergen, it was a sliding doors moment in my life and changed the direction I took forever. It started as a hobby, quickly moved to a passion (obsession) and is the reason that I set up Adventure Awaits in North Wales.

Was a superb day in the mountains taking Fabio from Spain onto the Idwal slabs and onto Cwm Cneifion and the spectacular ridge that is one of my favourite scrambles in the area introducing him to climbing in North Wales.

We are here for your first time in the mountains, to improve your climbing or to start your journey into trad, multipitch or alpine climbing and improvised rescue courses. Bookings are being taken for 2027 already and dates are booking up! Get in touch for more information.

Coming from Bristol I’ve always been a big fan of street art with the likes of bringing a social and political message to their incredible art. Then there is vandalism like this spray painting pure none sense on Crib Goch’s infamous ridge.

Hearing about this through our local British Mountaineering Council group I headed out for a run armed with some spray paint remover and my trusty brush and got the mountain looking a bit better.

You should always leave the mountains as you found them, take only photos and memories, leave no trace. You can always go one better and don’t walk past that bottle thats fallen out of someones bag or a choclate bar wrapper that flew out of someones pocket. Just pick it up and put it in your bag and together we can leave the mountains looking better for all to enjoy.

Thanks BMC Cymru Area for the spray!

Welsh 3000’s, one of the best running challenges in Wales and a tough proposition with 50km and over 4,000m of height gain to tackle in a day. With strong winds and heavy rain forecast that challenge was only ever going to get tougher.

Blown away by the grit, strength, tenacity and experience of the 3 ladies that despite the forecast gave it there all and despite the weather thrived in the challenge and enjoyed the adventure.

With the forecast it would of been irresponsible to go over crib goch and the sheer number of rescues completed by Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team is testament that it was not the day to be on a knife edge ridge that has consequences.

Although we didn’t complete all 15 of the 3,000’s we did do all the other 14 and of course was the right decision for the day, the forecast and how it felt when we were on the hill.

Here is some feedback from one of the participants:

“We did the Welsh 3000’s run and had a tough but great day. Despite pretty awful conditions we were guided with skill and expertise, they were ever cheerful, knowledgable, organised and efficient. The day ran perfectly with the van welcoming us at the end of every stage with plentiful nutritious food, hot drinks and even delicious home made soup. Would highly recommend Adventure Awaits”

We run private guided Welsh 3000’s, Welsh 3000’s for running clubs or running groups and individual Welsh 3000’s. If this is something you are interested in doing in 2027 then check out our website linked in the bio!

Thanks Kate Owen for being part of the Adventure Awaits team!

How do you put into words 8 days of racing across the Pyraneese? A total of 230km and 16,000m of height gain running through 2 countries it was a race I had been looking forward to for a long time.

There were many highs: beautiful scenery, mountainscapes that were breathtaking, lakes and rivers where I just wanted to stop racing and jump in and so many wonderful supporters and fellow competitors.

There were also lows where I picked up a bug and pushed through a couple of stages to the detriment of my body and pressure (that I put on myself) once it was clear that there were chances of getting on the podium.

I’ve always said I was a completer not a competer at races but being in a team race felt different. It was not only what I wanted but what my team mate wanted to get out of the race too and that added pressure.

In total out of the 8 stages we stayed consistent getting on the podium all but 2 of the stages (where we finished 4) and came 2nd overall behind a strong British Team. It’s a result I’m super proud of in a strong field.

The Pyraneese Stage Race run by BiFree Sports is unbelievable in so many ways. Organised amazingly, accommodation in hotels was great and the food was always to a good standard and the route is just sublime!

Big shout out to every volunteer that they have in their team. They are what made the race so amazing and unforgettable!

Back to work now running the Welsh 3000’s at the weekend and starting to plan Adventure Awaits events for 2027. You can check out what we do by visiting our website (link in bio).

Having felt a bit lost recently throwing yourself into a long traverse felt like the right objective to loose myself in the mountains. Taschhorn Dom traverse from the Mischabel bivouac promised a lot, 1 kilometre of ridge at 4,000m and a tin can bivouac (the highest in switzerland).

After a staging day climbing Allalinhorn and a short ridge to Alphubel, both 4,000m peaks, we settled into the bivouac named after the Mischabel mountains. A dinner of mashed potatoes, a couple of games of Yahtzee and an early night ready for a big day.

We set the alarm for 2am and were out the hut by 2.30 tackling Taschhorns ridge via the beams of our head torches. I always find the beam of your lamp comforting as you have such a narrow field if vision ans can inky concentrate on whats infront of you. There were no real difficulties on the climb and we got to the summit before 5am still in the pitch black. Apparently there are some good views along the ridge but we didn’t see anything!

With a bit of frost we descended down to the Col between the two mountains and although not particularly technical a lot of care was needed and the pace slowed as a consequence. After the Taschhorn ridge I was really looking forward to the Dom ridge but it couldn’t have been more different. Loose, difficult to protect and again easy climbing but you needed so much concentration to ensure there were no falls.

The summit around 11 was spectacular and then our thoughts turned to the long long descent and the need to move quickly before the snow bridges across the crevasses melted. The descent was 3,700m in total to the valley floor. Most people split the descent up and stay a night in a hut but why bother when you can wreck your knees!

Was a great couple of days in the mountains and a good chance to clear my head. Nothing was found, nothing was discovered but moving freely in the mountains always feels good while it lasts!

Two nights on the Allalingletscher climbing a couple of 4,000ers to get acclimatised. The plan had been to climb Rimpfischorn (4,199m) by its NE ridge and Strahlhorn by its normal route in a day.

An early alarm call and a good start to the day saw us gain the ridge with the most amazing sunrise. The NE ridge (AD) didn’t cause us any problems and we moved well throughout enjoying the climbing. The descent via the normal route (PD) was a little scrappy in places but again we were moving well and were making good time.

It wasn’t until we were on the glacier did we realise that are plan wasn’t going to materialise as the glacier was so soft and the remaining snow bridges needed a great deal of care to cross (or avoid in most cases). Although it meant a long afternoon in the heat on the glacier we decided to leave the second peak until the next morning when the glacier had a chance to firm up.

Strahlhorn the next say was a bit of a snow plod without much interest but was an objective for the day that got us up high again. Even at 5am in the morning on a glacier at 4,000m it was alarming how much water was coming down. Summit bagged and the long walk back to the lift via the Brittania hut and much needed food and a shower.

Bodies are better acclimatised and after a days cragging we are heading back up to get one of the longer ridge climbs done, by far the safest thing in the Alps at the moment!

Couple of laps of the mirroir d’Argentine to get back into the groove of climbing and moving well. It’s such a cool looking piece of rock that I often see from my work and it’s a joy to climb.

14ish pitches, around 400m of climbing and at amenable grades it’s definitely worth a visit. We did the direct route and Remix, fully bolted (although for those that don’t like runouts I would take a small rack) on delightful limestone.

To top it off we saw quite a lot of alpine salamanders on the walk in. Incredible species that can live for up to 10 years and are the only salamander that are completely terrestrial!!

Tour de Muverans via the t4 high route in Switzerland with Kris from Stiina🇪🇪 & Kris🇱🇻. What an incredible day running 48km and 3,800m of ascent around one of the lesser known tours in the alps.

It always blows my mind that so many people flock to the Tour Mont Blanc with all the crowds when there is such beauty and good running trails elsewhere in the alps. Insane scenery, some amazing lakes, an old army barracks, ibis up close and a hut custodian that could tell we were tired and gave us free coffee shots to see us through the last 10km!

There are plenty of huts so no need to do it in a oner also, that’s just for crazy fools like myself and Kristian.

If you’ve ever wanted to do anything like this it’s easy to book us for private trips where we can organise the hotels, huts, be guided by a highly experienced running International Mountain Leader and take all the stress out of your alpine trail running adventure so you can just whoop and hoot your way through the trails.

Something like the Tour de Mauveran or the Tour Dents du Midi can easily be done as an epic 4 day mini break! DM me for more details.

Such a privilege to organise and be part of the support crew for Jamie realising his dream of completing the big 3 rounds. Jamie is an experienced fell runner but wanted a low key final round without having to worry about navigation or organising support runners that know the round intimately.

For some people hiring people to support rounds is a taboo subject but getting the right crew is so important and mistakes on the round can cost you dearly. If you’re not from North Wales getting the time to reccee each leg can be difficult too so we can take the stress away from the round.

The Paddy Buckley is the toughest of the 3 UK rounds and Jamie gave his all coming in at just over 23 hours. It was an amazing achievement and so happy that Adventure Awaits could be a part of it!

Fancy the round or want to be guided along parts or all of it? Get in touch for reccee days or full support.
