Social Stories are coming to Central’s SEND brunch on the 10th of November, next Tuesday.

Find out how you can use social stories to support your child’s understanding of social situations and appropriate behaviours, whatever their age and stage.

Meet other parents, find out what’s worked for them, share experiences why not drop in after the school run?

Makaton Taster Session 👌👍

Our Social Communication and Interaction team are hosting another FREE Makaton Taster Session later this month!

The Taster Session gives you a general introduction into what Makaton is, and who uses it, with the opportunity to learn a few signs and symbols too.

This Taster has a focus around signs that we use in the early stages of communication.

At SENDsory Explorers, your child can explore lights, textures and sounds in a calm and supportive space.

There is no pressure for children to join in in a certain way. They can watch, touch, move, listen, explore or take a break whenever they need to.

The group is designed for 0–5 year olds with additional needs, diagnosed disabilities, emerging SEND needs, or those on a pathway to diagnosis.

Parents and carers can also meet others who get it, share experiences, and feel less alone.

If you are a parent or carer of a child aged 0–5 with a diagnosed disability, emerging SEND needs, or on a pathway to diagnosis, SENDsory Explorers is here for you.

Each session offers gentle sensory play with lights, textures and sounds, a chance for your child to build confidence, and space for you to meet other SEND parents who understand.

More than 100 children, young people, families and professionals came together last month at Barnsley’s first SEND Awards Ceremony.

The special evening celebrated the achievements, progress and everyday abilities of children and young people with SEND. Awards were also presented to inspiring adults who go above and beyond to support, encourage and champion our children and young people with SEND.
