So the crew have not long got back from what can only be described as one VERY Wet and Windy day!
Leaving at just gone 06:00hrs and returning to station for 19:30 hrs!
The crew worked alongside Ledbury Fire Station on a number of scenarios throughout the day from House Fires, RTC’s, Hazmat Incidents, finalising with a Multi Agency, Over Border Incident with Crews from Mid and West Wales.

The scenarios were extremely realistic and gave the crews opportunity to work together in real time to resolve the incidents working with Ambulance, Police and as above Crews from Mid and West Wales.

Thanks to those who organised today and for Mid and West Wales FRS for facilitating and welcoming us again to a brilliant venue.

As you can see by the photos! The crew started the day by ensuring they had breakfast and were fully fuelled ready for the day ahead, and even with the horrendous weather They still came away smiling! All be it a little jaded!

6 of the crew are attending Sennybridge tomorrow for a day of Incident Command Scenarios.

The extremely realistic and varied scenarios varying from RTC’s and House Fires to Hazmat Incidents gives individuals who are wishing to be Incident Commanders and those who already are to hone their skill set and to learn from honest and constructive feed back from Assessors and Level Two incident commanders.

Mondays Drill night saw us complete our weekly checks…….. we then took part in a table top exercise working to achieve a plan using Fire Survival Guidance.

We worked as a crew to resolve a hypothetical incident in a multi residential building and worked alongside our Station Commander Tom Rowberry who is an FSG Officer to resolve the incident.

Part way through the session we were mobilised to reports of a car fire in Upper Welland, which was resolved using a Thermal Imaging Camera and a Hosereel Jet for cooling.

So yesterday’s water rescue training went really well.
We practiced various scenarios including how to rescue a casualty from a car in dynamic water.
Various swim techniques and self rescue situations.

We also practiced a new technique which is shortly going to be introduced to the Water First Responder Skill set of using our Raft with paddles, which will enable us to paddle out in static water.

Thanks to all the instructors for a great day and if you have chance get yourself across to Cardiff International White Water Centre!

23/09/2026

So on Friday the majority of the crew are going to be heading to Cardiff International White Water Rafting Centre to recertify their Water Rescue Skills.

There, the crew will be working on different scenarios, from rescues from vehicles in dynamic water, to rescues from flooded premises and also self and team rescues.

Photos of the day to follow!

Across the service you will notice that our flags will be lowered to half mast as a mark of respect and solidarity for our American Colleagues.

Yesterday saw our annual Practical Skills Audit take place.
This involved a 30 Question Assessment, followed by a practical BA and Pumping Relay Drill.

The BA drill involved a rescue of casualty, with Smoke hood application, followed by a BA control module failure and impound procedure.

The Water relay involved setting up an improvised Dam using ladders, a salvage sheet, ratchet straps,
LPP (Light Portable Pump) and main pump.
Delivering a water supply to main jets!

Today, we remember firefighters John Davies and David Morris who tragically lost their lives on 6th September 1993, at Sun Valley on Grandstand Road in Hereford.

John was a Retained Firefighter at Leominster and David a Wholetime Firefighter at Hereford.
