Bull Croft – Temporary Footpath Closure

As part of our ongoing management and maintenance of trees across Wallingford's parks and open spaces, a recent survey by a specialist tree consultant has identified a dead tree in the Bull Croft that requires removal.

Unfortunately, the tree poses a potential danger to members of the public.

As a precaution, we have temporarily closed a section of the footpath in the Bull Croft until remedial work can be carried out.

We appreciate that the closure may cause some inconvenience, but public safety must come first.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we arrange for the necessary work to be carried out. We ask everyone to respect the temporary barriers and avoid the affected area.

RECORD-BREAKING SEASON FOR WALLINGFORD ACCESSIBLE BOAT CLUB!

A huge congratulations to Wallingford Accessible Boat Club (WABC), which has enjoyed another record-breaking season on the River Thames!

Between April and September, the volunteer-led charity welcomed more than 750 passengers across 162 Wheelyboat trips – increases of 59% and 65% respectively on last year!

Demand for the charity's free boat trips was so high that every available trip for the remainder of the season was fully booked by the end of July!

WABC provides opportunities for disabled and less mobile people of all ages to enjoy time on the river, offering experiences that can make a real difference to people's wellbeing, independence and quality of life.

A fantastic achievement by everyone involved, particularly the dedicated volunteers who make these trips possible.

Could you help make 2027 even bigger?

With demand continuing to grow, WABC is looking for more volunteers to help increase the number of trips it can offer next year.

If you'd like to get involved or find out more about this wonderful local charity, visit:

Commemorating 80 Years of Polish History

Last weekend, two of our Town Councillors, Cllr Mahmood Ebrahimjee and Cllr Richard Dunne, had the honour of representing Wallingford at a special ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the arrival of Polish troops in the area in 1946.

Organised by the Friends of Checkendon Camp group, the event saw the formal unveiling of a commemorative plaque recognising an important chapter in the area's wartime and post-war history, and the lives of the Polish servicemen and families who settled in Britain following the Second World War.

The ceremony was attended by the Polish Ambassador to the UK, senior representatives of the Polish Embassy, local dignitaries and descendants of those who had lived at the camp.

Among the guests of honour was 100-year-old Polish veteran Czesław Błachucki, alongside representatives of 11 former camp families, many of whom had endured extraordinary journeys through Siberia, the Middle East, India and Africa before arriving in Britain.

It was a moving occasion, celebrating the enduring friendship between Poland and Britain while ensuring that the remarkable stories of those who came here are remembered by future generations.

Our thanks and congratulations go to the Friends of Checkendon Camp for their dedication to preserving this important piece of history

Have you spotted this new lifesaving equipment in Wallingford?

If you’ve walked past Nationwide recently, you may have noticed an important new addition outside the branch – a public access defibrillator and emergency bleed control kit, available for the whole community to use in an emergency.

Wallingford is part of a major nationwide initiative which will see this lifesaving equipment installed at all 605 Nationwide branches across the UK – putting defibrillators and bleed control kits right at the heart of hundreds of communities.

Here in Wallingford, the equipment has been installed externally, making it accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In an emergency, always call 999 and the operator will provide instructions and, where required, the access code for the equipment.

A defibrillator can make a crucial difference when someone suffers a cardiac arrest, while a bleed control kit provides equipment to help deal with a serious or catastrophic bleed until the emergency services arrive.

The equipment is there for all of us, so we wanted to make sure Wallingford residents know it’s there and where to find it should it ever be needed.

A fantastic initiative and a really valuable addition to our town. Thank you to Nationwide UK for investing in lifesaving equipment for communities like ours.

An exciting opportunity to become a Macebearer in Wallingford!

Have you ever attended a civic event in Wallingford and wondered about the person dressed in green, carrying the ceremonial Mace?

Wallingford Town Council is looking for a Macebearer to help support this important and historic civic tradition.

The Macebearer plays a special role at civic functions and ceremonial occasions, accompanying the Mayor and representing a tradition that has been part of Wallingford’s history for generations.

It’s a fascinating position involving only a small number of hours each year, with a modest salary, and a unique opportunity to become part of Wallingford’s civic life.

Could this be the role for you?

We’d particularly like to hear from people who:
• Have a connection to Wallingford or an interest in its history and traditions
• Are physically able to stand and carry the Mace for extended periods
• Are confident, organised and comfortable directing people at civic events
• Would enjoy playing a part in preserving one of Wallingford’s historic traditions
• Have previous Macebearer or similar ceremonial experience – although this is not essential

💚 Interested? We’d love to hear from you.
