The Heritage Centre provides talks and tours on the Maritime and local History which stretches back beyond the Roman Invasion, and includes a number of significant Historical Events, including the Viking Invasion, Norman occupation, Hundred Years War, the Black Death, Wars of the Roses, Tudor Privateering, the Spanish Armada, English Civil War Siege, Monmouth Rebellion, 18th Century Smuggling, Georgian Holiday Resort of George III, Napoleonic Wars, Victorian and Edwardian History, WWI, WWII (D-Day embarkation), and modern Cold War Espionage. Stay safe out there - Portland is being battered by the first storm of Winter

The first big storm is with us and Portland Road here is Dorset has been closed. No getting on or off Portland for a while. This amazing image was taken during a storm in by Peter Allen, on 14 November 2009.
