🌺Whitwick Remembrance Parade – Sunday 8th November 🌺

Whitwick Parish Council hopes to see lots of residents joining us for our annual Remembrance Parade as we come together to honour and remember those who gave their lives in service to our country.

🚧 Road Closures – Please Take Note

Road closures will be in place throughout the parade and service to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

We kindly ask all residents and road users to:
🚗 Use alternative routes if travelling by car during the event, until the roads have reopened.
🤝 Please be patient and respectful towards our volunteer marshals, who will be helping to keep everyone safe on the day.

Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated and will help ensure the event runs safely and smoothly for all.

Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you there as our community comes together to remember.

A yellow weather warning for strong winds has been issued for tomorrow by the Met Office, as Storm Austen reaches Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

This means there may be some localised impacts, including disruption to travel and the possibility of power cuts.

The first named storm of the season is a timely reminder of the need to be better prepared for extreme weather and other risks, as we head into winter.

Take simple steps now to:

• know your risks (eg. is your home at risk of flooding, or would you find it difficult to cope in a power cut because of medical or other needs?)
• get to know your neighbours - particularly anyone who may struggle in an emergency
• keep a supply of essential items, like bottled water, medication, and a torch and batteries - in case you need to leave home in a hurry, or stay put until the danger has passed

It's Flood Action Week for a reason!

Flooding can affect anyone, so it's important we plan ahead and look out for each other, particularly anyone who would find it harder to cope during a flooding incident.

Our free community resilience programme is here to help you and your community be better prepared for flooding - like these residents in Leicester who've worked with partner agencies to install their own pop-up flood barriers.

Take action now to prepare for flooding and other winter risks by joining our winter preparedness webinar this Thursday (22 October) at 10am.
(The session will be repeated on Weds 4 November at 6.30pm.)
