💷 Budget Consultation 💷

Have Your Say on Wilton Town Council’s Budget for 2027/28!

Each year, Wilton Town Council sets a budget to ensure it can continue delivering services, maintaining community assets, supporting local projects, and investing in improvements that benefit the town. As we begin planning for the 2027/28 financial year, we want to hear from the people who know Wilton best, our residents.

The draft budget outlines how public funds could be allocated across a range of services and priorities. Before any decisions are finalised, we are inviting residents to share their views.

There are several ways to get involved. You can attend one of our drop-in consultation sessions, where councillors and officers will be available to answer questions and discuss the draft budget, or you can submit your comments and feedback online.

Your views are important and will help inform the Council’s decision-making process as we set a budget that reflects the needs and aspirations of our community.

🎖 Remembrance Sunday: Next Weekend 🎖

Next Sunday, 8th November, Councillors will join with the HM Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Dame Sarah Troughton DCVO, and members of our community to take part in the Remembrance Day procession and Church service.

West Street will be closed from the Market Square to the Church of St Mary & St Nicholas from 10:15am to 10:30am to allow the procession to take place.

The service includes 2 Minutes’ Silence at 11am, and concludes around 11.15. This is followed by the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial (in front of the church), by representatives of the Town and County Councils, Wilton Veterans, local business and community organisations, Emergency Services, Scouts, Guides and the Parish Church.

We would like to invite residents to join us to honour those who served, and continue serving, in our Armed Forces.

This is a very well-attended service. To be sure of a seat, please make your way into church by 10.20am.

Serving members of HM Armed Forces are welcome to attend in uniform.

Following the Church service, the Mayor will be hosting a short reception at Wilton Community Centre, to which everyone is also invited.

🕑 Fall Back 🕐

Don't forget, the clocks go back one hour tonight!

Did you know, The UK adopted British Summer Time (BST) in May 1916 primarily to conserve coal and energy during the First World War?

The movement in the UK was driven by an English builder named William Willett. During his early morning horse rides, Willett noticed that blinds remained drawn across houses while the sun was already high. In 1907, he published a pamphlet titled "The Waste of Daylight", arguing that shifting the clocks forward in spring would:
🕯 Cut domestic expenditure on artificial lighting and candles.
🏋‍♂️ Give workers more daylight hours for recreation, gardening, and exercise after work.
🤧 Improve general national health and well-being.

However, rumour also has it that William Willett was a keen golfer, and one of his main frustrations was having to abandon his evening rounds at dusk, just as he reached the closing holes! 🏌‍♂️
