Have your say on Hampshire's future 📢

From roads and libraries to education, school transport, social care and more, Hampshire County Council provides vital services that support daily life across the county.

But like councils nationally, we’re facing growing financial pressures as demand for services rises while costs increase faster than available funds and our Government funding is cut.

Through careful financial management over 20 years, service improvements, and efficiencies we will have reduced costs by £770 million by March 2028 but we still face a projected budget shortfall of almost £199 million in 2027/28.

As we plan how to respond to these growing financial pressures, we want to hear from you. Have your say in our public consultation on ways we can continue to balance our budget while protecting the services that matter most to Hampshire's communities. Your feedback will help shape the decisions ahead.

The consultation is open now and closes at 11.59pm on Sunday 13 December 🗓️

With schools back after the half-term break today, drivers are encouraged to take extra care near schools. 🚸

As mornings and evenings become darker and autumn weather can affect visibility, please allow a little extra time for your journey, look out for children walking, cycling or scooting to school, and be prepared to stop for our School Crossing Patrol officers. Whatever the weather, School Crossing Patrol officers are on hand to help children cross the road safely and support families on the school run.

Thank you to all road users for their continued care, patience and cooperation in helping keep children safe around our schools.

As the evenings get darker, our new Travel Safe Officers are helping passengers feel more confident when travelling by bus in Portsmouth and Gosport 🚌

You may have already seen them on some bus routes at evenings and weekends, providing a visible presence, offering reassurance to passengers and helping address any concerns quickly.

They're part of our new Travel Safe Scheme we've been working on with Portsmouth City Council, Gosport Borough Council, local bus operators First Bus and Stagecoach, Gosport Ferry and Hants Police to support safer, more confident journeys for everyone.

Alongside the new officers, we've invested in improvements including bus stops and shelters, better lighting and CCTV – helping people feel safer and more confident when using public transport.

Whether you're heading to work, college, the shops or meeting friends and family, these improvements are helping make bus travel a comfortable and confident choice all year round.

A big milestone reached in Havant this week! 🚧

The successful removal of the ageing Havant footbridge by our contractor GRAHAM Group is a significant step towards delivering a modern, accessible crossing.

Over the next few months, works will concentrate on the removal of the existing bridge foundations and the construction of new foundations. During the summer we'll see the installation of the new ramps, stairs, and the main body of the bridge. The project will also deliver improvements to local drainage, surfacing, lighting, and fencing.

There’s been an important update today on the future of local councils in Hampshire and the Solent.

Government has confirmed that councils will be reorganised in 2029, with plans to reduce the current 14 councils providing services across the area.

We’re now waiting to hear from Government about the next steps.
