Update on West Witney Clubhouse Refurbishment

Witney Town Council can confirm that its contract with Skyline for the refurbishment of West Witney Clubhouse has now ended.

We know that people will be disappointed and frustrated that the refurbishment is taking considerably longer than originally anticipated. The Council recognises the impact the delays have had on those who use and value the clubhouse.

Our priority is to see the refurbishment completed. The Council is reviewing the work that has been finished and the work which remains to be done. This will help us determine the best way to complete the outstanding works and bring the clubhouse back into full use.

West Witney Clubhouse is a much-valued community facility, both as a social venue and for its changing rooms, and the Council remains fully committed to its future.

We cannot comment on some details at this stage because of the contractual position. However, we want to be as open as we can with residents and will provide further updates as soon as we are able to confirm the next steps.

Last year, Witney Town Council awarded Youth Services Grants to several local youth-focused organisations, prioritising inclusive, preventative initiatives offering open-access support and benefits to young people in Witney.

We’ve checked in with the organisations to hear what they’ve achieved with their funding, and we’ll be sharing their stories over the next two weeks!

🤝 Bright Futures was awarded £3,648 to launch SPARK, a parenting support initiative in Witney aimed at improving the home life and overall well-being of young people in the town.

They have delivered a primary school course at Tower Hill Primary School and three successful standalone sessions, reaching 18 parents and carers, as well as three teachers and youth workers. They look forward to their next course on the 4 November, which will take place in the community at the Corn Exchange.

🛶 Witney Buttercross Scout Group received £3,500 to purchase four high-quality kayaks, supporting their outdoor activities and helping them take place safely.

Installation of Sanitary Bins in Men’s Facilities at Corn Exchange and Burwell Hall

Sanitary bins have now been installed in all of the publicly accessible toilet facilities within Witney Town Council-owned public halls, following discussions with a local resident and campaigner for the “Boys Need Bins” campaign.

During a committee meeting, the resident spoke to the town council regarding the need for sanitary disposal facilities and greater awareness of continence-related conditions. In support of the campaign, which aims to improve access to sanitary bins for men who use stoma bags, incontinence pads or other continence products, the Corn Exchange and Burwell Hall will now have these facilities readily available for residents using the venues. This extends the existing sanitary waste disposal provision already available in women’s and disabled toilet facilities.

Those living with conditions such as Crohn’s disease or colitis rely on appropriate sanitary waste facilities when outside of the home, and the lack of these disposal options can significantly affect residents’ quality of life, dignity and independence. Ensuring these are available to everyone is an important step towards a more inclusive town and community.

Witney Town Council Wins Biodiversity and Ecology Award at the Oxford Climate Awards 2026 🌿⭐

The Oxford Climate Awards are organised by the Oxford Mail and Oxford City Council to celebrate individuals, community groups, schools, and businesses taking action against climate change across Oxford and Oxfordshire. They in particular recognise efforts in emission reductions, biodiversity protection, and green initiatives.

The Council’s submission highlighted its work on improving its green spaces and supporting wildlife through new habitats, wildflower meadows, community orchards, and nature-rich verges. The UK’s first Tiny Forest and ongoing improvements to Witney Lake and Country Park have helped connect wildlife habitats, strengthen biodiversity and shown the recovering of water voles and bird species.

The award was accepted on behalf of Witney Town Council at a ceremony in Oxford on Thursday, recognising the ongoing efforts of the Council, its staff, volunteers, and everyone who has contributed to developing and enhancing these valuable green spaces.
