Thatโ€™s why Child Safety Week is so important. Each message shared helps children lead active, healthy lives, safe from serious injury.

It can take just 15 seconds for a young child to lose consciousness if they get tangled in a blind cord. And sadly they can die in just a few minutes.

Make your blind cord safe, secure it on a cleat hook or use a tensioner (safety devices that should come with all new blinds).

For help about making your blinds safe visit ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ”— https://capt.org.uk/blind-cords/

Children under 6 on 1st January 2026 will now be offered the MMRV (measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox) vaccine as part of the NHS childhood vaccination programme.

The MMR vaccine is still available for adults and older children born on or before 31 December 2019 who were not vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella when they were younger.

Swim safe this summer ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ

Itโ€™s scary to think about but drowning doesnโ€™t happen like it does in the movies. A drowning child doesnโ€™t splash about or cry for help. They slip quietly under the water, often unnoticed.

But, once you understand how and where drowning happens, there are things you can do to prevent it.

Download the Child Accident Prevention Trust's free fact sheet for top tips ๐Ÿ‘‡

Watch out in water fact sheet | Child Accident Prevention Trust Our Watch Out In Water fact sheet gives essential advice for parents on keeping your children safe from drowning. This fact sheet is also available in Welsh.

Protecting Your Newborn from Neonatal Herpes ๐Ÿ’›

In the first 4โ€“6 weeks of life, babies are especially vulnerable to infections like herpes (HSV). Here are some simple but important steps to help keep your baby safe:
๐Ÿ‘ถ Hand hygiene matters โ€“ Always wash hands before touching your baby.
๐Ÿ’‹ Limit kissing โ€“ Only very close family or carers should kiss your baby.
๐Ÿ“ Safe kissing spots โ€“ If kissing, choose the top of the head and avoid the face (mouth, nose, eyes).
๐Ÿšซ Cold sores = no kissing โ€“ Anyone with an active or past history of cold sores should avoid kissing your baby.
โš ๏ธ Active lesions โ€“ Anyone with herpes sores (anywhere on the body) should avoid contact where possible, or practice strict hand hygiene if they are a main carer.

These small precautions can make a big difference in protecting your newbornโ€™s health during those early weeks. ๐Ÿ’•
