Press release

A12 improvement plan - Published 21 October 2026

Woodbridge Town Council respects the attention and work done by Suffolk County Council’s Officers and Councillors to improve the A12 between the Seven Hills Junction (with the A14) to the Woods Lane Roundabout north of Woodbridge.

However, our serious objections remain. These were set out in a press release on 18 February 2026.

This part of the A12 used to be a fast access route to East Suffolk. Overdevelopment of out-of-town retail at Martlesham, coupled with significant housing developments, had already slowed it to just an access route to East Suffolk, that is prone to gridlock.

The improvement plan, introducing traffic lights at every roundabout, will reduce this part of the A12 to a suburban stop and go route. It will also deliver a rebuilt roundabout north of Woodbridge (the Grundisburgh Road roundabout) that we believe does not meet national standards and will prove dangerous to all users – pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. This roundabout is a vital feeder for all our town’s schools, and it is simply unsafe in our opinion.

Woodbridge Town Council does not know who set a budget of ÂŁ63m. However, given the ÂŁbns being spent on transforming East Suffolk into a Green Energy Hub and the ÂŁbns in proposed new housing developments, we deserve better. If our economies are to thrive and with residents and visitors being able to circulate throughout East Suffolk, then this part of the A12 needs to be returned to being the fast access route to East Suffolk. Nothing less is needed. It is our only main road and public transport is not yet up to scratch.

Let’s please have an improvement plan that is fit for purpose.

Councillor Nigel Phipps
Mayor of Woodbridge

Our friends 432 Squadron - Woodbridge Air Cadets have asked that we share news about National Cadets week - the Woodbridge squadron is a thriving squadron offering activities, memories and friends. They have more than 40 cadets and 15 staff - please give their profile a look if you are interested!

🚀 NATIONAL CADETS WEEK 2026 IS HERE! 🚀

Today marks the start of National Cadets Week, and across Norfolk & Suffolk Wing RAF Air Cadets, we're celebrating everything that makes the cadet experience so unique.

From adventure and aviation to shooting, sport, fieldcraft, STEM, music, ceremonial duties and leadership, our cadets are constantly learning, challenging themselves and trying something new.

But being a cadet is about more than the activities.

It’s about confidence. Friendship. Resilience. Leadership. Community. Opportunity.

It's about giving young people the chance to discover what they're capable of, and perhaps finding something they never knew they could do.

Over the coming week, we'll be sharing some of the incredible opportunities and achievements from across our Wing.

📸 Follow along and see what our cadets get up to!
