National Mentoring Day | Mentoring is one of the most powerful ways people can support one another. Whether formal or informal, having someone in your corner - someone who listens, guides and believes in your potential - can make a real difference to the direction of a person's life.

It doesn't have to be about business or career progression. Mentoring can happen in communities, schools, sports clubs and everyday friendships. Sometimes the most meaningful mentors aren't given a title at all.

If someone has positively shaped your path, today is a great day to acknowledge them. And if you have the opportunity to support or guide someone else, consider what a difference that could make.

Who has been a mentor to you? Share your story below. πŸ’¬

On Sunday 18 October, the Mayor of Workington, Cllr Sue Fryer, was delighted to welcome guests to her Civic Service at St John's Church, The Benefice of Workington

The service brought together councillors, local organisations, community representatives, family and friends for a thoughtful and uplifting occasion. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the values of community, service and civic pride that help make Workington such a special place.

The Mayor would like to thank everyone who attended, as well as St John's Church for hosting the service and all those who helped make the event such a success.

ADHD Awareness Month | ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects the way people focus, manage impulses and regulate energy. It can affect children and adults alike, and looks very different from person to person.

It's often mischaracterised as simply being 'distracted' or 'hyperactive', but ADHD is a complex condition that can significantly affect every area of life, from work and relationships to self-esteem and daily routines.

Greater awareness helps reduce stigma, supports earlier diagnosis and ensures people can access the help they deserve.

If you'd like to find out more, ADHD UK is a brilliant resource.

World Food Day | Here in Workington, food plays a brilliant part in local life, from community events and markets to the many wonderful independent businesses that make our town what it is.

World Food Day also encourages us to think about food waste, sustainability and ensuring that everyone has access to nutritious food. It's a good moment to reflect on how we can all make small, meaningful changes.

Whether it's supporting a local business, reducing waste at home or simply appreciating what's on your plate today, every little action adds up. 🌱
