🌱 BROWICK REC IS GETTING A MINI FOREST!
Delighted to share that the grant application I wrote to South Norfolk Council’s Nature Conservation Fund for £10,000 has been successful! 🙌 Wymondham Town Council will match fund the grant, and work will begin very soon!
Around 700 saplings will be planted in a 200m² area, creating a valuable new habitat for wildlife while helping to boost biodiversity in Wymondham. 🐦🦋🐝
The trees will be planted using the Miyawaki Method, developed by Japanese botanist Dr Akira Miyawaki. This approach helps establish diverse, thriving woodland more quickly than regular methods. 🌿
🚴♀️ The mini forest is part of the first phase of improvements to Browick Rec, which will also see the existing skate park extended and the pump track refurbished. There’s more to look forward to, too, with plans for a new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), trim trail, accessible path, picnic area, play equipment and more. 🌳🛝
💚 And the community can get involved! There will be community planting days, plus a competition to name our new mini forest. I’m looking forward to seeing it grow and help us create a greener, more wildlife-friendly Wymondham. 🌍🌱
📷 Cllr Lucy Nixon has long wanted a mini woodland for Wymondham and is also very excited the grant application was successful - so we visited the Rec today to see the spot where our Miywawaki forest is going to be planted.
