At 13:46 today, our firefighters and colleagues across the service held a minute silence to remember the 343 Firefighters who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks which took place 25 years ago.

🚨 We are aware that some residents are reporting seeing and smelling smoke across the area.

The smoke is believed to be linked to significant fires in South Wales, with prevailing winds carrying smoke across our area.

If smoke is particularly noticeable in your area, we recommend keeping windows and doors closed where possible as a precaution.

With conditions currently very dry, we are urging everyone to remain vigilant and take extra care to help prevent fires.

If you see or suspect a fire, please call 999 and ask for the fire and rescue service.

Please share this information with friends, family and neighbours who may be affected.

As we develop our next Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP), it is important that we understand not only the risks identified through our data, but also how those risks are perceived by the people and communities we serve.

The purpose of this consultation is not to validate what we already know. Instead, it is an opportunity to understand what matters most to our communities, what concerns them, and whether there are risks, perspectives or priorities that we may not have fully considered.

🚒 Busy Times for Your Local Firefighters 🚒
The recent spell of hot, dry weather has kept crews across Yate Fire Station incredibly busy.
Our Wholetime and On-Call firefighters, alongside colleagues from other Avon Fire & Rescue Service stations and neighbouring fire and rescue services, have responded to a wide range of incidents over the past few days. These have included grass fires, agricultural fires, road traffic collisions (RTCs), gain access incidents, and providing assistance wherever it has been needed.
As temperatures remain high and the countryside stays exceptionally dry, we’d like to remind everyone to take extra care. A single spark, discarded cigarette, disposable BBQ or unattended campfire can quickly develop into a serious fire, putting lives, property and wildlife at risk.
Please do your part by:
🔥 Avoiding disposable BBQs and open fires in the countryside.
🚬 Disposing of smoking materials responsibly.
🚗 Reporting any signs of fire as soon as it’s safe to do so.
🌾 Being mindful when working or enjoying the outdoors during this dry spell.
A huge thank you to all the firefighters, control staff, partner agencies and members of the public who have supported us during this exceptionally busy period.
Stay safe, look after one another, and help us protect our communities.
